I have been working at Hospice of Palm Beach County full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This company has a comprehensive benefit package

    Cons

Growth mode mentality is resulting in a steady stream of resignations and senior management tends to overlook the core reasons for the exodus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in the trenches with your employees, spend a day experiencing the field frustrations for yourself. You'd be surprised how much you can learn without spending $ after $ trying to fix problems you haven't experienced.

Was great, now just being run into the ground by ego driven management. Talking IT and COO.

I worked at Hospice of Palm Beach County full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

For a non-profit, the pay is really quite good. PTO is generous, benefits good.

    Cons

Lack/ absence of leadership is frustrating. The leadership that does exist is self-serving and ego centric. Recently acquired Hospice by the Sea, and inherited some great workers, but terrible leaders. In last 6 mos, 4 directors (all femaile) have quit and 2 other critical information employees. Really HATE to see this company go down tubes any further. They need to clean house starting with the CIO then COO. CEO is ok, but needs to stay in touch a bit more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please open eyes and look at what is causing high recent turnover of key employees/directors. An acquired 'asset' from the merger is a cavity in your organization. Please stop using high paid un-vested consultants to manage your business! You have spent >1 million on these folks, just be smart and hire folks to do the job(s). And, if you want to keep them, you will need to clean house of some leadership.

I worked at Hospice of Palm Beach County full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The organization is financially stable and has a good reputation in the community. Hospices in general have good reputations in the community.

    Cons

They have forgotten why they are in business. Leaders are more concerned with getting bigger than with the level of care that is involved. Because they have a lot of money, they spend it stupidly and wastefully. Time off is difficult to get, training is last minute and everything is about getting more patients and "beating Vitas". This feels unprofessional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Gt back in touch with the mission of the organization, forget about getting bigger until it happens because of the excellent care. Stop knocking down the other hospices in the area. That doesn't help anyone.

I have been working at Hospice of Palm Beach County full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

working with the patients and families is very rewarding

    Cons

Management reward themselves handsomely while cutting the regular employees. They are not honest and will say anything to obtain their objectives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All of your good people are leaving. You will be soon be left with only the puppets. You continue to cut back on the benefits and capping the salaries of employees while you are giving the chosen few Lexus and hefty raises. This is supposed to be a not for profit compassionate organization. You have lost your way.

    Pros

Good clinical team, pretty good benefits, pretty good way of treating people. Compared to other companies, I was pretty happy.

    Cons

Not enough employees to do the work - need to hire more. Hospice is the type of work where you need to have time to recharge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to hire more people. It's been a hiring freeze that's gone on too long.

I have been working at Hospice of Palm Beach County full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Employees are great and truly care about the patients and families. CEO is always forward looking for new ways to expand, which leads to the cons...see below.

    Cons

They created many new positions for upper management and placed a hiring freeze for front-line workers and those that take care of the patients. Good, long-time employees are leaving the company on a daily basis because the stress is just too much and the expectations are high with little resources to do the job that needs to be done to care for the patients and families. Now that the hiring freeze has been lifted, those that are left are still without adequate staffing. Terrible work/life balance with little flexibility. Do not apply here if you are looking for a slow-paced job. They will push you until there is nothing left to give.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your eyes. Your staff is leaving in droves. Morale is at an all time low. Hire more front-line workers and get rid of your some of your management. Only then will you see your beloved census rise to where you want it to be.

its easy to bill Medicare and almost always get reimbursed. Great Sales job for a recent grad.

    Cons

very political when making your bonus. they will make your goals un attainable if they do not like you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
