Terrible. Worst leadership ever. Nothing but finger pointing.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsThe pay is pretty good.

ConsNo team work. Every function tries to blame the other.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Company Controlled by Rulers, not Leaders

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Lake Forest, IL

ProsHigher than average pay to counter poor reputation as an employer
Great if you aspire to work in India in a few years or need a higher paying job until you find a good company to work for.

Cons- Very top heavy organization in corporate with lots of politics and finger pointing. Management does NOT have your back, as most work load and blame trickles down from VP, to more VPs, to Directors, to Managers, and finally to the few remaining staff level employees or temps to solve the problem.
     - Finger pointing culture motivates lower levels to not communicate real problems for fear of punishment
     - Short-term focus for immediate financial gain versus what's right for the longer-term.
     - Business is now almost paralyzed by overly conservative quality and regulatory processes because of past sins from lack of investment and succession planning.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you focus on patient outcomes and service the money will come, focusing on money first will destroy the company over time. Patient-centricity will attract talent motivated to perform for more than just money. Focusing on money primarly will attract talent primarly interested in money. Reward employees who do the right thing in supporting service levels, and remove those who game the system for bonuses. Flatten the management structure and hire more doers. Keep leaders willing to get hands dirty and hold themselves accountable. Pay attention to turnover and reasons for that.

    Good luck!

Constant struggle between upper management and manufacturing

    Formulation Technician (Current Employee)
    Clayton, NC

ProsGood people, and a very laid back environment.

ConsDrug weigh, filling and formulation are on the same pay scale. Ridiculous!

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to value their employees more.

    Opportunities for Improvement

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsLots of learning opportunities, great benefits, good exposure to leadership, great people. There are a lot of good things to say about working here.

ConsThe culture needs improvement, you get the feeling that some departments have a lack of motivation. This will drag you down if you let it.

Best people I've ever worked with

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe work life balance is excellent, flexibility is widely available. The team is very collaborative and cooperatively organized. My department is well managed and has well respected leadership. People respect each other and their time, they rely on each other and communicate very well so that the company's best interest is always being maintained.

Constaking out my own garbage is a bit odd and free coffee or tea would be nice.

Advice to Senior ManagementI very much appreciate the work that is being done to turn the company around and rebuild Hospira's reputation. The gap that Hospira fills in the pharmaceutical industry is important and I'm proud to be part of the comeback team.

A great place to slow down.

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Diego, CA

    ProsFlexible working hours.
    Good 401k.
    Relatively good paycheck.

    ConsNot much room for growth.
Not good for engineers, a lot of processes that kill or slow down creativity.
Not enough good leaders and engineers.
No bonuses or perks unless you are high in organization chart.

Advice to Senior ManagementRe structural the way you look at engineering, allow room for growth and give your engineers a reason to go an extra mile for you.

Uneven work loads, constant stress, little appreciation

Member of Technical Staff (Former Employee)
    Morgan Hill, CA

ProsGood 401K and health benefits. Average or better than average for vacations, sick leaves and other types of leaves. Good co-workers, most of whom are "over-qualified" for the work they are doing.

    Good severance packages.

ConsThe place suffered from under-funding AND poor distribution of human resources.

The atmosphere was awful. Even the newly hired wanted out within a few months. When long time employees got their layoff notices, instead of crying their eyes out, they all seem really happy like they just won the lottery.

    Fast paced

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsHourly workers have the ability to work overtime

ConsFast Paced so it can be stressful to meet deadlines

Advice to Senior ManagementDisorganized! Emphasis to "fix the foundation" but it doesn't seem to change.

    Good and Bad

    Quality Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsThe working environment with colleagues is friendly, and you will have opportunity to work on multiple job functions. 401K match is good.

ConsBut the Management team does not show clear understanding of the issues around the company and fail to give proper guidance on the right direction.
