    Pros

I personally learnt a lot at Hospira. It was a new industry, a new role. The challenges in the new role were huge but so were the rewards. The medical industry has many quirks that I was unfamiliar with and Hospira helped me widen my perspective. Working on technology that could impact lives positively was a great feeling

    Cons

Much slower paced than other industries such as telecom etc. Lot of red-tape said to be for product safety but was due to inter-disciplinary interference where a person who knew nothing of software would make a comment that would delay software development indefinitely.

    Pros

The benefits were great. I worked for a sub-company they acquired, and they largely left us alone to operate autonomously.

    Cons

Terrible employee review process. Shoe-horned in to write goals for things that didn't apply to us.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Change the review process

    Pros

They are trying to change their culture and progress the company to be more competitive. Site investment and commitment has increased as well as a renewed drive to do things right the first time

    Cons

Benefits still lag compared to the rest of the industry. Procedures to improve actually keep improvements from happening...they have proceduralized themselves into a hole.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to the SMEs and their knowledge of industry standards and procedures.

    Pros

Strong brand name in healthcare industry, decent pay.

    Cons

Terrible, incompetent management team. Systemic quality problems, lack of profitability and overall lack of vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Divest and liquidate every possible division and product line before the company implodes.

    Pros

Good place to learn about controlled drugs and how they are made, packaged and shipped. Lots of career opportunities for people who want to push themselves to the limit. Goal orientated company. Benefits are great and better than most.

    Cons

The people (especially the line workers) are some of the most jealous, childish and envious people I've ever come across. People will not like you because you have a degree and have a high position than them. People will not know anything about you and make up lies to either try to get you in trouble or just for fun. I've never seen a bunch of adults act like idiots in one place more than here. It's really sad because some are genuinely nice people, but some are bitter because they've been pasted up for promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I really don't think there is much that can be done. Management expects adults to act accordingly, but unfortunately that's not the case here.

Current Employee - Manager in Lake Forest, IL

    Pros

People work well together for the most part. Growth company. Decent pay.

    Cons

Previous CIO was not effective. Poor leadership at the top levels. They focus on developing contractors instead of their own people. Company gives bonuses and raises to top management however holds off on rest of employees. Poor raises and abysmal promotions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on your contractor mix. You have contractors working for years getting top dollars and not always delivering and money is better spent on employees who want to make the company better and positioned for growth. Focus on your people!!! CEO needs to pay more attention to his people at all levels (get out and meet them, not just investors).

Income with lots of overtime, training in different test methods

    Cons

Too much testing to get completed per shift, long hours, no peer or management back-up

Former Employee - Supervisor  in  Austin, TX
Former Employee - Supervisor in Austin, TX

    Pros

The people working there are hard working and friendly. Some of the best relationships I have were from this organization. A benefit of being "in the trenches" with them.

    Cons

Poor management clueless on the morale and concerns from the manufacturing floor. No collaboration between qualify and manufacturing...very much "Us vs. Them" mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture is something that takes time to develop, not beat into your employees. This place is not the pinnacle of employment so do away with the "no re-hire" policy.
