Pros
Truly global company with international R&D, operation and mfg sites
Strong cross functional interaction
Work culture is strong with people paying attention to respect & trust
Talented management team
Good environment to build career due to cross-functional career and visibility to drug development from start to end
Good pay & benefits
Cons
Growing pains
Current credibility gap with respect to quality (but mgt is working hard to close in the gap)
Advice to Senior Management
Please pay attention to employee career growth and visibility; continue to encourage cross functional collaboration and science based decisions.
Pros
Good salary, though short term.
Cons
Lack of respect. Innovation not real - just a word for marketing.
Pros
Excellent salary and benefits.
Some departments have "people-focused" leaders.
I have worked at some very good companies who really appreciate and encourage commitment and engagement from their employees. My experience with Hospira is that those leadership behaviors are not made a priority.
Cons
Company suffers from operational challenges which create financial uncertainty.
Lack of leadership at executive and middle levels.
Little in the way of healthy culture.
Employees are generally under-respected, and development is not prioritized.
Advice to Senior Management
Employees are more motivated and more strongly committed to the success of the organization when there is some give and take. However, due to what appears to be a general lack of leadership and initiative, those executives who CAN lead but who lack the interpersonal skills to effectively motivate and inspire loyalty from their people have their behaviors encouraged. There is a difference between leading initiatives and leading people. The inspirational achiever does both well. Not the case here. Vacations are denied. Sick time is discouraged. 24/7 support is expected without regard to family or outside commitments. The environment has to change or employees will continue to leave and recruiting will get progressively more difficult and expensive.
Pros
Fair pay and some opportunity for growth. Some are very nicely rewarded, while others are only fairly rewarded. Industry is very interesting and challenging
Cons
Relatively new company and new leadership; change is constant, not always wise; they are trying to find their culture. Loyalty not big yet.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your employees and seek to develop and utilize their talents. Most are under utilized. Talent is available internally, and not only from outside.
Pros
gain rxposure to all functions from sales & marketing to financial analysis, legal, medical operations etc.
Cons
I suppose both a plus and a minus in that you have a lot of responsibility
Pros
Hospira had great benefits. It is a spinoff from Abbott and carried over most of their benefits. If you could make a strong case for how a project would save the company money you could do most anything.
Cons
The company does not have a good work / home balance. The expectation was always to give up everything to get the work done.
Advice to Senior Management
Moving jobs overseas does not really save the company money. It really only puts Americans out of work. Bring the jobs back home.
Pros
Great people to work with and work for.
Work life balance was better than most companies.
Talented employees
Cons
Horrible commute to work.
The IT organization and compliance departments needs some improvement.
Pros
Any job is better than no job in this economy,
Location near a big city,
Reasonable pay and benefits,
Old timers are great to work with, just not many of them left.
Cons
Management is focussed on short term returns,
Extremely disorganized, lots of busy-work leading nowhere,
Various departments work against each other,
Focus is on 'making the numbers' this year, not on Hospira's long term welfare,
Advice to Senior Management
Minimize number of PowerPoint presentations,
Value real work, not just pretty slides,
Pay attention and you will see who woks and who just talks a big game,
Ensure that actions of management align with Hospira's values and goals.
Pros
Decent benefits for this area.
Cons
No advancement for some functions.
Advice to Senior Management
Value experience.
Pros
Flexibility to be able to work from home on occasion
Cons
Expectations on staff high whereas salary relatively low
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication unimportant issues and strategy
