I have been working at Hospital Corporation of America full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Leadership growth, dynamic environment to work, top level pay. Constantly changing work environment with changes in the work environment. Big uses of Information Technology as well as expanding the use of IT to improve patient care efficiencies and effectiveness.

    Cons

Highly regulated environment too work under. Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture could use embrace more of a team approach toward it's staff. Consistent accountability needed.

I worked at Hospital Corporation of America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, decent pay, and a lot of room for advancement if you are willing to work long hours. If you are willing to put in the time, you will be recognized for it.

    Cons

It is not always the most efficient place to work as there is a recognition premium paid to those who put in 60 hours of work over those doing 70 hours of work in 50 hours. It's in the culture, though, so if you don't mind working long hours, there will be plenty of others doing the same. If you want to move up without working 55-60 hour weeks, this is probably not the company for you. For me, I felt the company had good values and culture, the culture (work/life balance) just didn't match my personality at that point in my career. It would probably be a better fit now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't have any suggestions to make, I think they are losing some good talent with their work-constantly culture, but I also think they practice what they preach. There will always be a stream of talented workers who are willing to work constantly, so why change what works?

I have been working at Hospital Corporation of America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very stable company. Above market pay. Tons of business growth.

    Cons

"Business First" environment that can be a little overwhelming for IT staff unless you remember that their business is patient care. Very traditional IT roles. Not keeping pace with changes in converged roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Begin thinking outside of the box regarding fusion of roles in response to evolving technologies.

    Pros

Good benefits, challenging work, ability to work from home if needed.

    Cons

No above and beyond awards, Annual raises are capped at 2% this is why I marked compensation and benefits as a 3 star, Little room for advancement in my group.

    Pros

Environment is great. Teamwork is a plus on my unit.

    Cons

    high turnover. Less competitive pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on employee satisfaction and pt satisfaction will follow. Too often we stress pt satisfaction at the expense of the staff.

I have been working at Hospital Corporation of America

    Pros

Being able to occasionally help people. Sometimes being able to utilize what you learned in Nursing School. Having twelve hour shifts available is nice.

    Cons

Too many to fit in less than a novel. The way that management treats employees. The way that management seems never to have the back of the employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that you are a health care organization that is supposed to overall help people. The words sound nice but actually seeing some action would be nicer.
