    Pros

Some teams are alright and seem to have fun

    Cons

    - Matrix organization - 2% salary increase - IT employee pay is not very competitive for Nashville

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Hospital Corporation of America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place if you are looking to occupy a seat doing the minimum until you retire. The bar is set pretty low, so chances are you'll meet all expectations.

    Cons

There is no real strategy or plan to achieve any objective. The work is just thrown at you with very little thought and without regard if it was needed or not. Complete lack of standardization or common sense seems to be the theme here.

    Advice to Management

Trust the people in the positions that they were hired for to do their job as well as you think you do yours.

I have been working at Hospital Corporation of America full-time

    Pros

Most co-workers are very helpful! Pay is fair at face value but fades with work life balance issues. Appears to be very open to lateral and promotional moves but at a personal cost (see cons). Very proactive in professional development where there is a CLEAR benefit to the company but fades in any personal goals that are not a current focus of leadership and any professional development even for company benefit is more often than not the responsibility of the employee on their own time.

    Cons

Management focused on long hours. Purposely hires for regional positions in states where they do not have to pay overtime. Routinely encouraged by management to work as many hours as possible (60-80/week). Awards may be given based on results but public accolades/write up focused on after-hours work. Time off policy very WEAK. Benefits are generally weak but average for the hospital industry. Understand the company is here to make money and that's why they have employees but seems to be on the personal backs of the employees and there seems to be no cognizance of work-life balance. This review was done on company time but rest assured I will spend 2 hours of my personal time to make up for the 10 minutes I spent on the review.

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk. Lots of team building activities but time for the activities come out of the hide of workers. Building teams can be fun but can also be resented when employees need to add the time spent on company activities to complete tasks and projects on weekends and evenings because of the mandated "fun". I'm not sure how HCA has such high scores on national best place to work polls...... so perhaps this review is mute. Just one persons opinion.

I worked at Hospital Corporation of America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

401 savings match and stock options available - health coverage expensive, and time off to take advantage of benefits (PTO) very restrictive due to short staffing and animosity !

    Cons

Pay and leadership needs improvement . Seems lower management does not value employee input and pay is not based on skills!! Felt very disappointed after many years of waiting for improvement and salary! Discovered my immediate management was sneaky, deceptive and undermining ! Safety issues were ignored and speaking out to H.R. resulted in reprimand and backlash!

    Advice to Management

Increase salary and staffing - be more in tune with employees needs and compliment hard work ! Offer more avenues for personal growth and not concentrate so much on statistics!

    Pros

Opportunities for growth. A culture that understands work / life balance but, also embraces hard workers. Most are go getters.

    Cons

Because HCA encourages growth often there is turnover. However, that turnover is usually from within the company and transitions are typically easy for other staff.

    Advice to Management

No real advice here or criticism. Continue to develop from within, maintain the HCA culture, and keep the focus on patient care and outcomes.

    Pros

    Cons

This is a very large organization that can be difficult to navigate at times. However, I view that as a challenge and have enjoyed every moment.
