    Pros

Company is heading in the right direction. It will take some time to get to where it is going but success can't happen overnight. Groundwork being laid with a strong executive team. Opportunities for advancement for those who show initiative. Funds available for employee training.

    Cons

The recent changes in upper management have shook things up but people need to be patient- things are heading the right direction.

    Pros

Open office environment allows for collaboration across teams.
Tech company environment vs. corporate environment.
Everything we do has never been done before -- no "business as usual".
Incredibly intelligent people who are willing to explain complex technology without making you feel like an idiot.
    Dogs in the office!
Great location, lots of windows in office.
Lots of team outings, team awards, employee recognition.
    Snacks and catered lunches.

    Cons

New leadership changes led to some shake ups in management and direction, but things seem to be on track now.

Off shore teams can be difficult to work with because of time and distance -- need to bring more development in-house, stateside.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep an open door policy and transparency. Continue to focus on product development.

    Pros

Free lunch once a week paid for by upper management. Not hostway itself. Laid back environment. Good stepping stone to something better.

    Cons

Cloud is hyper-v based when every other cloud provider is using a real hypervisor. Uptime for cloud platform last year was pathetic. Microsoft basically paid them to use their cloud platform and it's been a nightmare for both customers and the people who have to support that crap. Upper management however, will most likely stick to their guns and keep trying to bring in new leadership to try and force a mediocre product to work. Hostway also just started selling their private cloud and support hasn't even really been trained on how to use or support it. That's going to become a big mess when some unsuspecting victim actually signs up for hostway's private cloud. Lack of communication throughout the entire company that leaves customers upset while support and customer service takes the brunt of that anger even though half the time they haven't been told what's going on either. Customers constantly threatening to take their business elsewhere all the while you're thinking about telling them that they probably should if they're looking out for the best interest of their business. Very little possibility for career growth within the support department. The ambitious employees basically get crapped on for trying to get anything done right and they'll more than likely leave within a few years of working their. Pay is well below market rate. They've provided a make believe systems administrator title in the support department to make their techs feel like there's actually some kind of possibility for career advancement but you're really just a glorified tier IV support tech.

    Advice to Management

Invest in a real cloud platform and get off of microsoft's nutsack. xenserver is free and that's what your so-called competitors, Amazon and Rackspace are using. Your platform isn't of higher quality just because it has microsoft's name on it. You need to start paying attention to what's actually going on in the industry and use a proven solution.

    Pros

A lot of great, intelligent people to work with. A growing company that finally has proper leadership in place unlike previous management that did much of nothing and was never visible. Current leadership has a vision and strategy but ex-employees (as seen in some recent reviews on this site) are bitter because they couldn't cut it here - weren't productive enough to survive under new management.

    Cons

It has its growing pains no doubt. Sales department is still trying to find their way. Could use more experienced sales veterans to mentor younger staff. Everyone needs to get onboard with the new strategy or get out of the way.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. We finally have a strategy, unlike previous management.

    Pros

If you'd rather play than work, you'll fit right in, There's no accountability for anything so deadlines are meaningless and the people there essentially goof off most of the day, playing xbox or just talking. Very little real work gets done.

    Cons

There's no strategic direction from the top and no personal goals. They are desperate for funding and change the strategy depending on which funding source they are pitching to. That's no way to run a company

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all the top management and bring in seasoned employees who know how to set and execute a strategy

New management did not come with leadership skills. Fractured company hiring to avoid working with existing teams.

    Pros

Lunch on Wednesday for Chicago employees

    Cons

Hostway has been a struggling company for many years due to no leadership and poor communication. In December of last year Hostway was acquired by Littlejohn & Co. and we all thought positive changes would come. Instead there was a period of silence lasting 6 months. Culture and morale are in the toilet and the amateur move by new management was to institute an employee appreciation program to distract everyone and give "HR" something to do. The result, support gets well deserved praise (but this doesn't assist in vision development or leadership it only highlights that a killer support team needs to exists because the rest of the company fails to execute), ops congratulating each other for keeping dying systems running and it kills enough time in the all hands that no one can ask real questions.
With several months of new management the one positive change is getting rid of a problematic VP. Half way through Q1 and our new leadership is radio silent, hiring another layer so they don't have to deal with existing teams and problems because they are old school (literally) and don't have the energy to build teams using the SMEs that have been holding out for hope and leadership. With the end of their own careers nearing retirement the only management (note that leadership isn't even a worthy term) they have left is to hide from their responsibilities by creating another layer of management that will take at least 6 months to get up to speed and good luck getting people in the company to talk. Hosting is not hard. Leading is hard and we are making this so much harder than it needs to be. Why. Ego.

    Pros

It's very laid back and "fun"

    Cons

There is not a lot of serious work that happens here. It's all fun and games and then a panic at the end of the month when the abysmal numbers come out. The pay is laughable.

    Pros

Company is under new leadership, ownership and hiring new executives that believe in growing the company and sharing a common vision of being a leading company in the hosting space and a top employer. Under new leadership the company now values it's employees and understands that they are important assets. This past year with new CEO, Bob Boles, there has been more direction, transparency and employee recognition. Company also has a lot of flexibility, great work life balance, and excellent benefits plans.

    Cons

As with any company undergoing change and growth, one con is that change takes time. It's a work in progress and can't happen overnight so expectations need to be realistic.

    Advice to Management

Continue recognizing your employees and communicating constantly. Share a common goal and move forward, don't look behind.

    Pros

If you are looking for a job in the IT/Hosting industry, this is a great place to be. Hostway is a a young IT/hosting company and is facing some growing pains, but, this is actually a positive for those looking for a challenging work environment with lots of opportunity to grow.

If you're looking for an easy job where you show up and go through the paces, then Hostway is not for you. If you're looking for a challenging environment that can be extremely rewarding in terms of job opportunities and pay, then this is a great place to be. You must own your own success, its not something that is handed to you by an employer.

    Cons

    - Growing pains a young IT/Hosting company will face.
    - More training needed on a regular basis
    - Issues with prior product sets
    - Further define company goals and objectives and share with all staff more frequently

    Advice to Management

    - Empower your support and sales staffs on a daily basis
    - Find a niche in the hosting industry and expand on it. We cannot continue to be good at a lot of things and experts and none.
