I have been working at Hot Studio full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Rockstar talent without the ego. A real sense of mission - to build great products and build a great company - that is shared by all. A supportive, open work environment. Nice benefits and thoughtful admins. It's a fun place to work.

    Cons

All good things come to an end. The company has been consigned to the elysian fields of corporate entities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You built something great. Thank you. Hopefully you will inspire all those who worked at Hot to go out and do the same.

    Pros

You get to work with smart, talented people on interesting, innovative products. There's a culture of mutual support and work/life balance. Learning and professional development are actively encouraged. They're small enough to be able to seek out great clients. People move from here to other amazing places.

    Cons

With demand for their services exploding, they're going through growing pains and resourcing for projects can be a challenge. There are also some operational inefficiencies that are just starting to be addressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to streamline operations. Hold fast to your culture.

I have been working at Hot Studio

    Pros

Best work/life balance in the city. The people that work here are all friendly and there's a "family atmosphere" that helps make it a friendly work environment. The projects they take on usually have the feeling of giving back to the community or solving the greater problems.

    Cons

Projects can be boring at times (no sexy clients). The process can be confusing and counter-productive; Heavy on strategic/and user-experience design with little or no time for visual design or innovative ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Visual design shouldn't be an after thought. Visual designers should be part of the process from day 1.

    I worked at Hot Studio

    Pros

if you're lucky enough to work at hot studio, you've chosen the company because of the projects the company is known for - the philanthropic, feel good stuff. rarely will you have the chance to work on such challeges. dave eggers ted prize? check. sf moma? check.

    Cons

to balance out the feel-good projects, there are always a number of corporate projects that pay the bills. it's part of the deal. maybe that's for you, but they seem to be middle tier and old bigger clients (ebay) that aren't that sexy. also, the politics and cynicism can be a bit much for a smaller company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

continue to listen to your employees and continue to focus on stoking the fire that makes hot, hot.

I have been working at Hot Studio

    Pros

Like building whole projects in webkit? Wanna work on devices before they're released? Hot Studio gets work with new technology and new platforms because clients trust them to think through customer experience. A growing company with a work / life balance that's hard to match.

    Cons

A growing company always shows cracks and Hot Studio is growing! So sometimes projects run with slippage and some deliverables are rough, you can make it better!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the culture going and keep trusting your disciplines!!! You know how to enable people and this might be the greatest thing about your company.
