    Pros

    - Pruneyard is a great location, great view - No micromanaging - Bonuses are typically paid at 100% - Beer Thirty - Education is meaningful - Open vacation policy - Flexible work hours

    Cons

    - Bait and switch - Not really a technology company - Politics and favoritism doesn't win the business/innovation game (it actually makes you lose) - Too many direction shifts (finish what you started) - Talent reviews (Layoffs)

    Advice to Management

I believe you are what you bring every day and on the positive side some people in marketing bring dedication, work ethic, collaboration and innovation... Reward and promote them... On the other hand there are people in marketing bringing egos, politics, recklessness, and favoritism... Remove them and build a healthy culture that allows for innovation!

    Pros

    - Pay seems to be above average - Company is growing and bringing on new universities - Solid student-first values - Fairly progressive culture - Nice location with good parking, plenty of lunch opportunities

    Cons

    - Direction is a bit schizophrenic - Tends to hire instead of promote from within - Hasn't really been able to replicate the success it had with its first customer yet

    Pros

The best reasons to work here are a supportive leadership team which is incredibly empowering, flexible schedule and start-up atmosphere (everyone is working really hard to achieve a common goal and there is room to try new things - no two days are the same).

    Cons

A challenge to working here is that things move at such a rapid-pace and everyone is so busy that sometimes there is no time to strategize or do in-depth analysis to the extent that we'd like, but instead we just try new things and learn from them/make decisions on the spot with the information we have. Things are also rapidly changing so you must always be flexible and adaptable.

    Advice to Management

Best advice would be to put some procedures in place for new employees and to help us scale. There is still a lot of manual work to be done which could be automated and will help us scale.

    Pros

Even though this place seems to be hiring 10 people a day, it still has a small company vibe. The work environment is casual, entrepreneurial and idealistic all at the same time. Best things about HotChalk: - Smart, motivated co-workers - Inspiring leaders - Doing work that will change Higher Education forever - Strong work-life balance

    Cons

Because it's a startup, there is some unpredictability and inconsistency here in terms of what everybody is focusing on from day to day. Also, the office is getting crowded as new people are hired.

    Advice to Management

Would be great to see tuition benefits.

HotChalk is a fast growing company in Silicon Valley. For self-directed individuals looking to make a difference in education, there is no better place to be working.

    Cons

If you're a hard-working person looking to challenge yourself and learn something new every day, HotChalk is for you. Expectations are high, but so are the rewards.

    Pros

I have huge appreciation for everyone I work with at HotChalk. The team is dedicated and mutually supportive. People are recognized for their efforts. They are asked to work hard, but not to give up their lives for the job. There is a lot of emphasis on growth opportunities and skill building, and management is working hard to increate transparency at all levels. While growing significantly since I have been there, the company has maintained the hunger and drive of a start-up.

    Cons

Spending is tightly controlled. While this is generally good for the financial bottom line, it sometimes leads the company to make penny-wise/pound-foolish choices.
