I worked at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salary. Compensation, Perks, Office, Location, Product.

    Cons

They should consider former employees if they are relocating to other states.
It is fantastic when a satosfied employee continues to work for the same company. That´s loyalty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider relocated former employees at their new location and give them the chance to go back to your company.

Always a pleasure to work with the teams at HMH. They are experts in their field, highly organized, and very accessible.

I worked at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Your colleagues. Publishing houses, in general, have a family feel to them. However, most publishing houses are getting colder, and more impersonal. HMH, on the other hand, still maintains an air of familiar concern.

    Cons

You really have to jump around to get ahead. There isn't a lot of upward mobility, except for what you make yourself.

I have been working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The best reason to work for this company is the ability to work for a company that has taken direction from the ever-changing direction of technology and has made it work for the many different areas in education.

    Cons

The cons are the constant changes in management and realigning of departments within the company. Constant streamlining often misses the mark.

I have been working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

It's important work--designing instructional materials for students all over the US. It is also an academic environment and you have the opportunity to work with many creative and very bright colleagues.

    Cons

Dealing with corporate constraints, especially budget. Large companies simply don't have the kind of money they once had so finding financial rewards can be tough, especially for folks new to the business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salary increases would go a long way to improving employee engagement and work satisfaction.

I have been working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I started working here during the O'Callahan administration and times were troubled. Once O'Callahan was replaced by current CEO, Linda Zecher, there's been a huge push toward improving company culture, stabilizing salaries and offering employee training. I've taken three free training seminars in the last 2 years and it's improved various skill sets. I have a supportive manager and I enjoy my team and co-workers. Flexible hours are a pro, as are Summer Fridays.

    Cons

If you give us free coffee, we will work harder, faster, better...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please support the free coffee movement.
