    Pros

Small team, good work hours, easy work.

    Cons

CIO is difficult to work with - most team members has their own agenda and Trust is not a great thing here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has to look thru the internal lying and personal agendas and regain trust in the department

I have been working at Houlihan Lokey full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a work hard, play hard type of team. The people are great, easy to talk to and deal with and often easy to become friends with outside of work. Very smart group of people who think outside of the box and are definitely driven to succeed.

    Cons

The office culture is good for the most part, every office has it's lemons. Promotions don't happen very often in certain departments where they should. and bonuses could be better considering.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff, they have a lot of advice to give.

I worked at Houlihan Lokey full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good brand. Recognized/well regarded within the industry

    Cons

I didn't think the mid level/senior professionals were really that talented....but huge egos/bad people skills
analysts get completely worked to death - no respect for your time or personal life whatsoever
way too much process oriented work that doesn't develop your technical skills
culture was extremely poor and very hierarchical. Little training/teaching
not enough resources for analysts in general

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better senior officers. They are a lot less talented than most of the juniors. Many of them honestly couldn't get hired in this industry today. It makes for a top heavy organization that just isn't rewarding at the junior level. Also, most groups are horrifically understaffed. The firm should really work on investing in juniors and retaining their talent

I worked at Houlihan Lokey full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Open work culture, accessible senior management, and lean deal teams make for a rewarding experience. Given as much responsibility as you can handle, with client interaction even as an analyst. Many of the senior team members leading the FAS group have been with the company for a long time.

    Cons

A little top-heavy so room for growth may be difficult in the medium-to-long term. Most people have not heard of HL outside of the space. Work flow within FAS does not allow for vacation time around quarter / year end when most of your friends and family are off (though that is simply the nature of the business and not specific to HL at all).

I worked at Houlihan Lokey as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Respected bank. Good exit opportunities. High salary for Chicago.

    Cons

Man the culture was bad. Got screamed at (literally) by an analyst. A co-worker was made to miss a group drinks session during a USA world cup game as punishment for making some formatting mistakes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't force employees to work so many hours. Clients rarely read the pitchbook anyway.

Former Employee - Financial Analyst to Senior Vice President in New York, NY

I worked at Houlihan Lokey full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fair amount of good folks at senior management, smart, talented and loyal. Top pay in the restructuring group and lot's of smart and talented people in the group.

    Cons

Along with good senior professionals, there are also some terrible ones that have made it by flattery and politics. If you don't get associated with the right senior person, difficult to get good assignments and life will generally be terrible. Long term career management and training is also poor.
