    Pros

Good brand. Recognized/well regarded within the industry

    Cons

I didn't think the mid level/senior professionals were really that talented....but huge egos/bad people skills
analysts get completely worked to death - no respect for your time or personal life whatsoever
way too much process oriented work that doesn't develop your technical skills
culture was extremely poor and very hierarchical. Little training/teaching
not enough resources for analysts in general

    Advice to Management

Hire better senior officers. They are a lot less talented than most of the juniors. Many of them honestly couldn't get hired in this industry today. It makes for a top heavy organization that just isn't rewarding at the junior level. Also, most groups are horrifically understaffed. The firm should really work on investing in juniors and retaining their talent

    Pros

Fair amount of good folks at senior management, smart, talented and loyal. Top pay in the restructuring group and lot's of smart and talented people in the group.

    Cons

Along with good senior professionals, there are also some terrible ones that have made it by flattery and politics. If you don't get associated with the right senior person, difficult to get good assignments and life will generally be terrible. Long term career management and training is also poor.

    Pros

Money is good. perks are good. if you can stick around there is potential to make money.
Exit opportunities can be good depending upon your background and connections.

    Cons

Be prepared to spend at least half of your weekends here. Forget about life on weekdays (including Friday).
Personal life will suffer and so will your health.
FAS specifically is very boring work. All you do is make reports & there is not much to learn in that line of business. Also, if you stick around for too long you will not be able to make a switch in your career.
mid-level managers at this firm are poor managers who think that junior staff doesn't deserve to have a life.

    Advice to Management

Definitely need to have a better vision about increasing the use of technology.
Hire better people; people are technically ill-equiped and a lot of people are there not on merit but on the basis of knowing someone.
Need to involve junior people in the interview process for hiring.
    Get better managers;

    Pros

You learn great modeling skills, and best business practices in terms of internal and external communication and workflow process management. The experience you gain can set you up very well after just a couple years because you've developed skill sets that are very valuable to the market. You can use this to get your foot in the door of companies with vastly different profiles. Oh yeah, and great pay compared to most jobs at least.

    Cons

You're a slave and have no life. Your managers are mean and they have no respect for your time. You are expected to feign excited interest and act in sycophantic ways in order to gain favor. Independent thinking is not frowned upon just acknowledged and ultimately dismissed. Also, you don't get to enjoy the salary as much as you'd like because your always working. Oh yeah...you're always working!!!

    Advice to Management

It's a churn and burn employment model so high turnover should be expected.

    Pros

Pretty decent culture. HLHZ treats employees very fairly. I feel I was well compensated for the time I put in.

    Cons

Pretty boring and often grueling workload. I had a lot of grunt work and even after 2 and a half years there, I never had much chance to do anything very substantive. I also tried numerous times to get outside training through business courses at local universities and was not supported by upper management.

    Advice to Management

I would have stayed with my team longer if I had received some more substantial training and saw real opportunities for advancement. I ended up leaving because I got sick of doing the exact same tasks quarter after quarter in spite of efforts to learn more.

    Pros

People are terrific and the work environment is the best around. The LA office moved a couple of years ago into a completely remodeled location. Great views, open concept, nice work stations.

    Cons

Too many Chiefs and not enough American Indians. Juniors work long hours and many weekends. Need to work on ways to provide better worklife balance.

    Advice to Management

So many committees floating around that it's hard to keep up with all the ideas and initiatives. They are all terrific concpts, but should think about how we corral them in so the proper implementation can occur.
