I worked at Housing Works (More than 8 years)

    Pros

At this company you are able to learn different aspects of case management. It is more interactive. You get to know the consumers personally but still on a professional level. This aspect assists you with doing your job more accurately.

    Cons

Being that the company is a private organization, it depends on Government grants for funding. Unfortunately, Sometimes these grants don't come through and the employees are late recieving their paychecks. Also in some cases the CMTM gets sort of attached to the consumers, and when a crisis hits, specifically a consumer passing, there is nothing in play to help the CMTM to get through it.

    Advice to Management

Support groups are needed for CMTM;s that experince loss within the realms of employment

I worked at Housing Works full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good environment, great cause, very nice people. It is a pleasure to work there and participate in the great work that Housing Works does.

    Cons

Not a very high salary, work can become a bit repetitive at times. Some people are also not very open to new ideas.

    Advice to Management

Housing Works is a great place to work, but it suffers from a pretty quick turnaround of employees. It will help to invest more in the salaries if you want people to stay for longer. Life in New York City is expensive and other companies and organizations pay their workers significantly more.

  10. As a salesperson, it was great because you were rotated between all the different tasks at hand.

    Pros

Your position gets rotated daily from intake, to pricing, to placement, then selling. It's diversified enough to keep it interesting.

    Cons

You have to be on your feet all day and hardly get to sit down for much time.

    Advice to Management

Keep raising the morale of your employees so they will want to do more and better!

I worked at Housing Works full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great community atmosphere - most people are very engaged in the mission of the organization. Fullfilling work and growth opportunities

    Cons

Management is inconsistent - some are very supportive while others pass the blame for any mistakes to their staff.

    Advice to Management

Let your employees form strong relationships, don't micromanage work but provide opportunities for staff to grow.
