I have been working at Houston Astros part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very very Flexible, our management staff is amazing they treat us with respect and are very understanding, free lunch, lockers, uniforms provided, one big happy family!

    Cons

seasonal job, work during the evening and get out late at night, weeks on and off depending on the team status, work during the summer when its hot, deal with a bunch of ignorant drunk people that come to the game.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wouldn't know what to say I love how the management is running the operation

I have been working at Houston Astros part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

My co-workers make my job easier; they're all friendly, love what they do, and help represnt the Astros organization in a great way. You get to choose which games you want to work. The company provides food during our break and that time is included in our salary. We get a couple of freebies every now and then (tickets, jerseys). The overall all work experience is great.

    Cons

Well of course not kuch promotion (maybe eventually become a supervisor). There is some miscommunication between the different departments. There are times when staff is shorthanded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just one thing, have a meeting with all the heads of each department so that we can be on the same page.

I worked at Houston Astros full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Perks of working in sports, tickets to every game, etc. Definitely a unique experience, and the co-workers were awesome.

    Cons

Compensation was minimal, as with most entry-level sports positions. The sales department particularly, one of my co-workers calculated that our salary (without any commission, which could be very minimal during the off-season) qualified us for welfare, or food stamps, I can't remember which.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since I've left, all the management I worked under have been replaced in light of the new ownership. I hear things have turned around significantly.

Receive great advice from former big league players and coaches.

    Cons

Money is not great and you are away from home for 6-8 months out of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay a little more to minor leaguers and provide dental insurance.

At some point working in sports for little pay gets old.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Houston Astros as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Met some of the greatest guys. There is nothing better than playing the game you love with some of the nicest guys in the sport.

    Cons

Never given an opportunity. I was told i was too old at age 24. I went on to Independent baseball had had a high level of success in a league with more talent than the one i was placed in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because someone is given a large signing bonus, does not mean they will be the best or hardest working player. Figure it out. The hardest working players are your college athletes that had to go through the college experience. When releasing people, have merit and don't call a 23 or 24 year old too old; especially when I was never sent down and led the team in a number of categories.

    I worked at Houston Astros

    Pros

You get to work for a major league baseball team, even if they are the worst in the league. It's a unique chance to see inside the machine.

    Cons

Management isn't fair to interns - they are unpaid and overworked. The perks presented in interviews and informationals don't live up to their potential.
