    Pros

It is a pleasure to work with the biggest Houston City College, it is lots of fun to work with International students from all over the world.

    Cons

Finding parking spots might be challenging at least some of the days of the week.

    Pros

Many benefits except for the "Cons" below

    Cons

HR dept is very, very slow and non-responsive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For attracting students and providing better service, focus on departments within HCC that are not performing

I have been working at Houston Community College full-time

    Pros

As a full time faculty member, having almost a solid 4 months off every year is nice. Benefit package is good. HCC has a new chancellor. He has a real mess on his hands.

    Cons

Like anywhere there's good and bad. Surrounded by unqualified and/or uninspired teachers, management, staff and administration who all coast through their jobs. No one does more than they need to. They do the bare minimum. There is an overwhelming disdain between departments. No one attempts to work together. Students run the asylum. They break rules with no consequence. As a teacher, I'm fed up. This is probably going to be my last contract with HCC. There is no tenure for teaching faculty. You are handed a one year contract every May that covers the next school year. Every faculty member receives the same contract. You must sign it or you will be fired. There is no room for negotiation. Take it or leave it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to be supportive and get involved with the teaching faculty.

I worked at Houston Community College as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Low stress little work, not much challenge. Probably much job security if you align with a mentor since corporate nepotism and inside protected networks of old boys and gals seems to work well here

    Cons

Mediocre organization from top to bottom. Good people were looked at askance and innovative ideas dismissed quickly. Do not rock the boat was a mantra.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Houston Community College part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of people from very different backgrounds and life experiences. Many different campuses all around houston, each with a different vibe and pace. New buildings and locations being added.

    Cons

Management could use work, some of the financial decisions made no sense in the short or long term. Each campus seemed like a separate kingdom ruled by the different campus managers.

I have been working at Houston Community College part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I have been able to grow as a teacher at HCC because there are so many opportunities to learn about new instructional methods.

    Cons

I have been working as an adjunct for many years, with no opportunity to advance to full-time. The full-time teaching opportunities are just not there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the budget balanced and find the money to put the good teachers on a salary.

    Pros

There are some great administrative staff and professors to work side by side.

    Cons

In some areas of hiring it is about who you know that I believe is a downfall of the organization.

Continue to interact with with students and other locations because HCCS is so large there is a great deal of information to be learned.
