I have been working at Houston Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There is an opportunity for advancement for those who work hard. The nursing administration is good and the nurses generally support each other and want others to do well.

    Cons

The physicians essentially run the hospital and are allowed to treat the other staff any way that they want. The company is not very supportive of allowing staff to return to school.

I worked at Houston Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers. Have okay benefits. Clean environment. Maybe a good place to gain some experience for someone just beginning their career.

    Cons

There are serious problems with the management and leadership teams. This thing called accountability is virtually non-existent. Employees don't have any recourse to dispute conflicts. Policies and procedures are in place, but not for the benefit of employees. In some departments it is almost impossible to advance or be promoted. This organization has many cliques and if you don't belong to the right one,oh well

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house. Some people that are in management and leadership roles should not be in these roles. Management and leadership need to be retrained. No people skills!!!! Lastly start listening to your employees, they know some things that might be worth hearing.

new hires should be trained on a better schedule, meaning consecutive days and not the schedule that it would after training.

I have been working at Houston Healthcare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Family environment, nice people, and co workers

    Cons

Ran like a corporation, the customer is always right no matter what the situation. No room for advancement for nursing support staff that are not nurses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employee feedback, employee retention and pay more attention to exit interviews.

I have been working at Houston Healthcare full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Insurance, Pay every 2 weeks, Paid Time off and Sick Leave, Most requested vacations given. A growing profitable company

    Cons

Not enough staff. No bonuses, Meager raises by less than 25 cents a year, They don't listen to those low on the totem pole, propensity to nepotism ( hiring friends or relatives ), although hired for a certain schedule, you could later be told that it no longer applies and be made to work any time. No such thing as promotion. Do not provide scrubs for most jobs. Strict policies. Greet someone and 9 out 10, they will not respond or look at you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Research not only the education of prospects, but their character. Improve/add ways to show on a weekly and monthly basis that you appreciate your employees, especially those who work hours away from home and family for hours.

I have been working at Houston Healthcare

    Pros

The workplace is excellent the customer service to the employees is excellent they encourage employee growth.

    Cons

The only downside I have found is that if you try on one job position and it doesn't work and you go back to what you were previously doing you have to wait six months before trying on another job.

I have been working at Houston Healthcare

    Pros

I love caring for my patients.

    Cons

Nursing knowledge is behind. Mentoring is poor. The desire to work as a team is not there. About living in the area: The town is regressive. Public education is poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look it up before you state is as fact. There is a lot of science behind everything we do. I did not go to school only to guess and go on hearsay. I expect my fellow professionals to do the same and have the will to seek a better understanding of the science behind what we do and make efforts to improve it.

I have been working at Houston Healthcare

    Pros

Ability to grow and advance. We have been able to keep our salaries and even have raises the last several years. Good benefits.

    Cons

On some units there is a show of favortism. We are not a level one trauma facility, so some patients do have to be transferred from our facility. We do not have internists, so primary physicians are often disturbed by several nursing units.
