Advice to Senior Management
Please make the environment little bit employee friendly
Pros
- Good career opportunities in senior management roles requiring more experience and contacts than in other similar companies within the industry.
- Some autonomy locally and regionally, but still micro-managed by Chinese senior management.
- Easy access to Chinese senior management, especially if you are meeting your targets and/or bringing value to the company.
- Great opportunity to visit HQ in Shenzhen, PR China on various occasions, especially planned customer visits there.
- Company, and thus, opportunities are always growing and available (short-term).
- Great opportunity to see how Chinese technology firms work and operate.
Cons
- Loads of communications problems and issues.
- Most of the senior management are Chinese expatriates - many with no experience.
- Constantly micro-managed and second guessed (especially from HQ).
- Everything is a "state" secret and information is hoarded by the few.
- Business practices can verge on the unethical, and there is definitely a business cultural difference with Western business practices and business ethics.
- There is no career advancement opportunities for non-Chinese staff above a certain level.
- Salary is slightly below average - bonuses will always be lower than you expect (loads of fine print and other vague policies).
Advice to Senior Management
- Hire locals experienced in the local markets for senior management roles.
- Improve the quality of the products and product documentation.
- Emphasis should be on global experience and not Chinese experience (Chinese way is fine in China, but not in the rest of the world - especially at the local level).
