I worked at Hub Group as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Mangement is great and the company offers lots of opportunities to advance and further one's career. The company also offers a great training program.

    Cons

The intermodal transportation industry can be difficult to grasp at first. There is a certain vocabulary of terms that would be helpful to know for anyone just starting.

I worked at Hub Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Easy work, the pricing process is very established and well thought out. You have all the necessary tools available to you.

    Cons

Work very closely with sales team which can be very demanding. Very little cross-functional exposure so the job becomes very repetitive. Because you don't get exposure to other departments it is difficult to expand your experiences and move within the company. Pay is average to slightly below market average and raises are negligible, they are more likely to give you a "Senior" title rather than a pay raise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It seems that they may have done some of this since I left but they need to work on employee development. Give exposure to other departments and/or the opportunity to take on more responsibility

I have been working at Hub Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I really tried hard to think of a pro but I honestly cannot think of one.

    Cons

Over worked, under appreciated and under paid with no recognition in the four years I have worked here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To stop the turnaround you should reevaluate how you treat your employees and reward those that do so instead of those who dont.

    Pros

Lots of company growth which allows for opportunities within the organization.

    Cons

Benefits are below-average, especially no tuition reimbursement and lack of holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean up the IT group, and be more proactive, rather than reactive to the market.

    Pros

In the few years I worked here, there was nothing positive.

    Cons

No opportunities for advancement, they promote based on alliances and friendships (even romances) not based on work performance. The place is a sinking ship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should promote based on work performance and knowledge. There is no integrity in management.

    Pros

Great People who really care about their job. Everyone can really come together as a team to get it done there.

    Cons

The pay is not so great and either are the benefits. I feel like upper management are the only ones thriving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share some wealth with people that are lower on the totem pole.

    Pros

Great leadership. Great opportunity, but you have to work for it, if you deserve it you are rewarded.

    Cons

Long hours, if you want to truly excel you must be dedicated and not strictly 8-5

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be more "shadowing" for training, not an easy job for everyone to pick up on.

I worked at Hub Group full-time

    Pros

It seems as though Hub has maintained it position in the industry by using its leverage with it equipment and driver base . It stays up to date with technology and treats it employees fairly with compensation.

    Cons

Over the years the company has shifted its network to a more local based operation and customer service centers to regional centers. It seems to be constantly consolidating its operational staffing and systems which creates gaps in customer service. I think the biggest drop off for an employee is that with this ever changing environment this is lack of focus on goals ,communication , and accountablity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate clear obtainable goals , and follow through with accountability. The bonus goals are very unclear and the direction is lost at the ground level .
