I worked at Hubbell Lighting full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to be creative and grow into the job. Solid products with a great reputation. Was more vertically integrated at one time which gave Hubbell the ability to manage quality and cost.

    Cons

When I started they were a $50M a year company with an engineering department of about 20 engineers. After 15 years I left the company. With a lot of hard work, we had grown the company to over $200M. 1 year later they purchased LCA and bought into the offshore business model and laid off almost all those good people and moved the management and what was left of engineering to South Carolina. They still make and sell most of the products I designed, and they still own the patents. You know today, the sad thing is ... I'm no longer good enough or qualified to be considered for the job I started in.
    Good company? You decide.....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's about time you stop holding grudges, recognize the people who made you who you are and give the older guys a fair look.

I have been working at Hubbell Lighting

    Pros

Lovely building. There are lots of side perks like discounts on tickets to plays ando amusement parks.

    Cons

They say one thing but do the opposite. They don't train their people and there is a definite lack of team work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Write procedures and create a training program this way you have easy to understand expectations. Also have some fallow through if you say your goal is teamwork then actually reward and encourage teamwork.

I worked at Hubbell Lighting full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great Company, Great location, Great Building and room for growth. oh Free Coffee...(I had to think hard)

    Cons

Absolutely authoritarian- Manager and Director's approach- "It is my way or the high way". They waste a lot of money on travel, when the same work can be done via webex or conference calls. They do not value People or their families. No flexibility in work hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Due to some bad apples in the management, the company will get a bad rap and loose key people (but wait they don't care, because they can get the temporary workers from offshore vendors to dance to their tunes). Managers -place value into what your employees say- many times they have more knowledge, and educational qualifications than you.

    Pros

Felt like family. Has a gym. Has a cafeteria. I loved working here, just wish it wasn't a temporary job.

    Cons

Meeting new people because it's so large.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When someone who has worked there has contacted you about a job opportunity, call or email them back.

I worked at Hubbell Lighting full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Management of my brand respected my suggestions and gave me a lot leeway, authority and responsibility Best successes of my career to date. Compensation comparable to industry. Human Resources projects for employee giving support local charities. Small on-site fitness facility at the Greenville HQ. Continuing quest by facilities manager to improve the "greeness" of the building and grounds.

    Cons

Not really a "con", but an amazing amount of opportunity equals a commensurate amount of work. Not unusual in the business or at my level.

I have been working at Hubbell Lighting as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

Very nice people who are very interested in teaching others about Hubbel and their advancements. They will most likely email you back if you show that you care about getting an internship.

    Cons

They are a smaller company so if you live far away from Connecticut they do not have housing for you so it is hard to be an intern for them because there are only two colleges near by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The people that work for your company are very knowledgeable and nice.

    I worked at Hubbell Lighting

    Pros

People/ co-workers were great! Very strongly managed. Focus was on doing a good job with a limited product offering.

    Cons

At that time, management was not focused I growth. The division was small at the time and did not have a critical mass to compete with the top 3 in the industry.
