Advice to Senior Management
Senior Management needs to choose who their Managers of people are. There are some really terrible Managers there that are not leaders of people - simply pencil pushers. They need to really think about how these people treat their staff. Some of these so called Managers need some sort of Management training.
Pros
Very friendly staff and management. Customers knew me by name. Cashiers and floor staff are very accepting of new associates.
Cons
Pay was not good for the amount of work you do.
Advice to Senior Management
If only management would take time to listen to the concerns that the associates have regarding on hands, they would be in a better place right now.
Pros
- The systems are great. The data may take a long time to pull, but the amount of data and quality of the information you can gather is great, which allows for much better forecasting and analysis. The systems are much more modern and sophisticated than the systems at Sears Canada.
- 15% discount at the Bay, Zellers, and Home Outfitters
- Year end company outings/activities help boost team spirit
Cons
- Long hours
- Low pay
- Poor bonus structure
- Few advancement opportunities...internal postings are very poor
- Poor communication about company performance, direction, and strategy with employees
Pros

Cons
Not entrepreneurial enough, Internal promotions not commonplace
Pros
If you want to stay in the retail industry, The Bay offers decent growth opportunities. Coworkers are friendly.
Cons
The repetitive music can sometimes get to you, especially during times that are slower through the day. Also, if you can't stand or walk around the store for hours, this may not be for you. You need to ask for help if you're new, whether it's from employees or the employer, not a great orientation in my opinion.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide better orientation to new employees and some feedback on one's performance would be great.
Pros
- casual fridays
- fast pace enivornment
- old canadian retailer
- nice people
- group lunches occasionally and holiday lunches
Cons

- not challenging enough
Advice to Senior Management
get to know employees better, give proper feedback, even if they are temporary
Pros
nice benefits, great people to work with
Cons
not great for advancement, need more workshops
Advice to Senior Management
offer more workshops to advance
