Pros
- Management is extremely accessible and communicates well with the various practices
- Great opportunities for advancement
- Exposure to wide variety of clients across the country
- Excellent culture within the office
- Feel supported by my co-workers
Cons
- Travel can be tough as a consultant, which is not news to anyone
- No real cons about working at Huron
Pros
I believe Huron's deep industry focus in industries that are experiencing rapid change is compelling. The culture at Huron is collaborative and consultants and leaders take a great deal of pride in what they do.
Cons
Expecations are high, so as long as you are a top performer you will do well here.
Pros
opportunity to do great work
Cons
people care about their practice but feel little affinity for the company
Pros
Quality people, Fortune 500 clients, responsibility, reputation, growth opportunity, entrepreneurial culture, fun work atmosphere (work hard/play hard)
Cons
Travel (consistent with other consulting companies)
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
+Majority of people (not all) are intelligent and good to work with
+Exposure to various industries and rules/regs
+Good IT support
+Good benefits
Cons
-Culture can vary widely between practices - from frat house to hipsters. Usually more frat than hip.
-Management competency varies widely at senior levels
-Too much emphasis on facetime with client, resulting in significant work travel.
Advice to Senior Management
Establish open 2-way feedback channels between managers and non-managers.
Offer more training opportunities. Expensing a book on programming doesn't count as training.
Pros
easy locations to work from
competence of corporate staff
collegial spirit
great parties for consultants where Huron picks up the tab
Cons
incompetence of corporate leadership
lack of direction
complacency as a strategy rather than accountability and direction
difficulty in understanding how to impact the business
lack of career development unless you are a certain gender and race
Advice to Senior Management
think about how to strategically execute
spend to grow - the great companies find ways to spend to foster rapid growth instead of reducing spend to cover up short-term misses
Pros
The people are the best reason. We have great benefits and management really cares about the development of its people.
Cons
Travel can be difficult and hours sometimes long. The company is still growing and developing new policies and proceedures which can change.
Advice to Senior Management
I suggest that management continues to work on people initiatives and the committment to developing a strong culture to drive growth.
Pros
Great people (for the most part)
Ability to work independently and take the lead on projects even if you're an entry level employee
Work/life balance - again, for the most part. It's great to go home on Thursdays, get bonuses for out of town stays, etc.
Consistent review process, strong professional development and opportunities to advance
Doing great work for clients and making a difference
Cons
Compensation not competitive
Some managing directors are incompetent and rude to lower level employees
Managing directors can overshoot targets when trying to sell a project, create smaller budgets than necessary, etc. and the brunt falls on lower level employees to meet unrealistic expectations
Staffing can be haphazard and makes little sense; unnecessary travel when work can easily be done at home
No coordination between some project managers and functional team managers, duplication of work, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't promote people to MD level who are obviously not competent at that level. Promotions should not be based on who you know and buddy-buddy relationships, but on the quality of your work and relationships with clients.
Pros
The people, the opportunities, the clients, the reward.
Cons
Long hours, stressful work, lots of travel.
Pros
A great culture to work within; a large & global reputation with a boutique feel and personalized touch; a place where your ideas and suggestions really do get heard; leadership is passionate about doing what is right for the employee as well as the company
Cons
There aren't many as I am in a corporate role and do not travel; I tend to be loud and our floors are sometimes too quiet!
