    Pros

Benefits and Compensation are good and inline with job requirements

    Cons

Management is fraught with problems. Entirely to much nepotism and advancement is meted out based on who you know and how much you are willing to boot lick. Promotion is given on the basis of who your drinking buddies are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look hard at the EPM group and clean out the nepotism and despots.

    Pros

You'll get meaningful work to do eventually
    Great hands-on implementation coaching experience

    Cons

Monday-Thursday travel every week is brutal
Analysts and associates do almost all of the work
    Coaching can definitely be lacking
Young folks probably can't go from new-hire to manager in less than 6 years. That's a long time to live on the road.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

retaining organic, skillful managers should be a top priority.

I worked at Huron Consulting Group

    Pros

The working environment was filled with people who generally want to do well. You live in apartments during projects which makes traveling every week more comfortable.

    Cons

The healthcare methodology is "Cookie Cutter" and does no match the current healthcare environment. This was actually mentioned to me several times in discussions with people from other healthcare consulting forums.

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Responsibilities are learned early on
    -Dynamic culture
-Variety of technology and business methodologies
    -Easy access to learning
    -Acceptable benefits
    -Interesting projects

    Cons

-Overpriced hours billed to the lowest billing consultants "analysts just out of college more than likely"
    -Worst work/life
    -High turnover
-Senior Management (lack of initiatives, no direction, no support, lack of management skills)
-Advancement is questionable, the formula seems to be on the right project at the right time, pick a good coach
-Professional Development is the worst, don't expect this indicator to mean anything, most of the other managers and directors are aware how bad it is
-Small-Med consulting firm competition is on the rise, they grew to big too fast and are now fighting firms with half the amount of employees for the same contracts. In turn they only go after contracts that are valuable rather than providing a complete solution
-Lack of resources to move new projects forward
-Company grows by acquisition not by internal growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make upper management more accountable. All of these Con's are because upper management allows and is aware of these issues. Only the CEO can be blamed if it has continued as long as it has. Give lower management some available time to breath and actually provide management.

Office culture, choice of which office you'd like to work out of, you have the ability to make your career your own.

    Pros

Dynamic, Young, Energetic Culture. Given responsibilities early on. Provides opportunities in both technical and interpersonal areas. Opportunities to travel and work with different clients.

    Cons

Travel and time commitments are greater than in other careers. Sometimes people in supervisory positions are not very well equipped to manage. Often the rate of advancement is dependent on turnover above you just as much as it is upon your abilities.
