    Pros

    Talented colleagues, good travel benefits

    Cons

Very political and focused on "who you know" and whether they like you or not, not whether you can do your job

I worked at Huron Consulting Group as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

At the doc review position in D.C., Huron has flexible hours and doesn't record every minute you take to get a drink or go to the bathroom. Many other doc review companies will do that.
The staff is very friendly and great to work with.
Huron provides a great introduction to Relativity for new reviewers and understands the learning curve sometimes associated with the program.
They do accept those who are pending for a bar. So, if you've just taken the bar exam and need a job, apply here. I didn't realize that was an option when I took the bar. It's a great opportunity to take advantage of for three months while you wait for results.

    Cons

Huron works specifically for the clients' needs, but this has a negative impact on contracting attorneys' work. As a contractor, the project you sign up for could be delayed for numerous weeks, most times without follow-ups on when it will start or if it will start. Cancellation of projects is really common after you've already signed up and been confirmed for the work.
The pay is below market rate at 26/hour for attorneys reviewing documents and 32/hour for quality control attorneys who re-review docs and help manage the projects.
They accept people waiting for bar results. This lowers the rate they pay for the work completed since half the people in the room aren't barred attorneys.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More transparency with contracting attorneys about project delays and cancellations. The third-party hiring model creates guess work and unclear communication for the contracting attorneys.

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Responsibilities are learned early on
    -Dynamic culture
-Variety of technology and business methodologies
    -Easy access to learning
    -Acceptable benefits
    -Interesting projects

    Cons

-Overpriced hours billed to the lowest billing consultants "analysts just out of college more than likely"
    -Worst work/life
    -High turnover
-Senior Management (lack of initiatives, no direction, no support, lack of management skills)
-Advancement is questionable, the formula seems to be on the right project at the right time, pick a good coach
-Professional Development is the worst, don't expect this indicator to mean anything, most of the other managers and directors are aware how bad it is
-Small-Med consulting firm competition is on the rise, they grew to big too fast and are now fighting firms with half the amount of employees for the same contracts. In turn they only go after contracts that are valuable rather than providing a complete solution
-Lack of resources to move new projects forward
-Company grows by acquisition not by internal growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make upper management more accountable. All of these Con's are because upper management allows and is aware of these issues. Only the CEO can be blamed if it has continued as long as it has. Give lower management some available time to breath and actually provide management.

    Pros

Worked in Legal. Wonderful co-workers and nice office.

    Cons

Poor work/life balance. Still implementing trainings and procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to work on trainings, also work on providing people with ability to move laterally within the company or further developing workers.

    Pros

Great place to get experience in a niche. Basic training is pretty solid and you will learn all the in's and out's of professional services/consulting.

    Cons

Personal growth is more a matter of politics and good fortune than meritocracy. Like most consulting firms they live off the over priced hours billed by the lowest consultants. Resistant to technological innovation, so don't go there if tech is your passion.

    Pros

Office culture, choice of which office you'd like to work out of, you have the ability to make your career your own.

    Cons

Huron does not have a day where everyone meets in the office (Friday office days). This job has 100% travel.

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people. A thorough recruiting process weeds out most of the folks you wouldn't want to work or travel with. Smart analysts and associates who are comfortable with complex problem solving and dealing with ambiguity. Managers who care about their people. A large company focus on diversity.

Strong corporate infrastructure. Solid HR Team and compensation model. Transparency around bonuses and raises. Excellent Training Team and training offerings. Courses that align with career growth. A strong emphasis on coaching and developing coach / coachee relationships. A well-established / well-run corporate Operations Team - helps make selling and running projects less of an adminstrative hassle. Work / life balance programs. A solid career path - you can stay at Huron for the long run and continue to grow.

Many opportunities to be recognized or get involved with company culture outside of project life - iMatter Teams, networking events, and company conferences.

    Cons

The typical challenges of a consulting lifestyle - longer hours, travel that keeps you from home, hotel / corporate apartment living.

Some questionable leadership - but nothing out of the ordinary for any other consulting company. Some MDs and SDs who have managed to stick around for too long despite limited contributions to sales or project execution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the emphasis on corporate culture and the programs that recognize / focus on work life balance and career growth.

    Pros

There are no pros. Maybe a certain degree of knowledge attainment. And, the travel points when you travel Monday - Thursday.

    Cons

Everything, everything, everything. This is the worst job I ever had and the management was horrendous. Work life balance does not exist. Micromanagement and rear view mirror performance review is rampant in this organization. To call it a hostile work environment is a friendly description compared to what the company is really like.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire all the Managing Directors and start fresh. This company is where unprofessional consultants go to die. Cronyism at its finest.
