I worked at Huron Consulting Group

    Pros

Fun place, everyone is willing to help. Excellent training and personal development. If you get a good coach you can grow.

    Cons

Not very transparent when it comes to calibration and employee advancement or bonus.
You must know one of the big wigs to get somewhere. You must constantly prove yourself to everyone, opinions don't always count if you aren't well known or liked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try giving employees warnings if they aren't producing.

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay is competitive and the benefits good. You receive an additional $750 per quarter for spending 25 nights out of town.

    Cons

The culture is incentous and everyone gossips like high school. They promote those who exhibit their standards of success which is your ability to follow a checklist for cookie cutter solutions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read in between the lines. Many people are unhappy and just waiting to receive their annual bonus come March before resigning.

    Pros

Great culture, feedback heavy, good strong leadership, growing market in healthcare with strong opportunity, great opportunity to travel

    Cons

Time and grade matters to promotion, can get stuck in specific solution group (con only if you want to move around), travel be a burden

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on people and growing outside of the box

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Good technical and consulting training for recent college graduates
    - Learn the corporate ropes and work with a large amount of well knows clients through the US
    - The PTO is comparable to most companies
    - Fun culture, lots of team events

    Cons

    - Many of the employees become team leads and supervisors quickly. This causes micromanagement and competition so everyone can justify their positions
    - This is not a place for an experienced hire to work, the policies are built around teaching college students
    - The amount of PTO is decent, the way it's distributed (rolling) is terrible and it never increases no matter how long you have worked there
    - Management doesn't listen to the employees, they have moved the company into a declining position in the market

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group as a contractor

    Pros

Location of the office on Wall Street; Not a lot of overtime work; Company culture itself seems pleasant. Company gets good clients and interesting projects.

    Cons

"Managers" have zero management skills. Unbelievable micro-managing, extreme lack of professionalism among one or two 'managers' who have sudden moments of pure tyranny. One manager treats workers like 5 year olds, does not know how to talk to people, and makes for a tense environment that slows productivity. Absolutely no support or guidance, No idea how such people actually get hired-does not seem to fit with Huron's culture. Also, no room for advancement or permanency, and thus, no motivation to put up with the nonsense or to do a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look closely and then replace some of those in management in the NY legal consulting team that handles document review because they alienate the true professionals who can give their best to your company, even if on a temporary basis, and instead, attract the less skilled just because they are complacent.

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent PTO benefits - if you're ever able to take any.

    Cons

Apathetic and complacent culture on the corporate side (in one particular practice area, at least). Leadership is self-righteous and self-serving. The majority of them talk out of both sides of their mouths. Really a depressing work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My suggestion would be to clean house. I don't know if I encountered a single member of leadership that knew what they were doing, made any significant improvements, or even cared about what they did or who they managed. Start caring about your people! They are your most important assets! It says a lot about a company when a significant number of your operations staff leaves within a very short time frame. I find it amusing that one of their values is "integrity," but the only people that possess any integrity are the ones they are letting walk out the door.

A good company if your a consultant; not so much for corp employee!

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great work-life balance; excellent PTO package

    Cons

Culture is one of everyone telling on everyone else. Matrix organization; poor pay for corp employees; expensive healthcare premiums; performance mgmt is really based more on what others think of you than how well you perform your job; low increases if you get one!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do something abt the culture, corp employees work very hard, they deserve to be treated more like part of the org, than just the red-headed step child because they are not revenue generators!

    Unrealistic Expectations, poor upper management

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

My close peers make the job bearable

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations, very short staffed because people keep leaving due to lack of support from management, expectations change almost daily. The culture of the company is poor. No honest or open feedback. Everyone is in it just for themselves and goes behind your back or above you for everything. Upper Management does not stick up for their teams. Less than a year on the job and already looking for a new company... that should tell you a lot!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get managers that work to better their team, bashing people till they quit is not the way to manage a team. If you are going to set expectations for the people that work for you, it would be nice to lead by example.
