Pros
Most (not all) know how to cultivate an enjoyable, personable atmosphere, managers are approachable and supportive, the Huron name is building presence in the industry, knowledge sharing is abound, successes are celebrated, opportunities for training and professional development are strengths. If you have the ambition and the competence, there will be opportunities for you to take advantage of.
Cons
Compensation is fine but not impressive for the industry. Aggressive growth in recent years has forced the company to hire new analysts that may not live up to expectations (but many are also rock-solid), still learning how to take advantage of experienced hires, project experiences can vary so much depending on the client, executive team, and project location. As with all consulting, the travel can become tiring.
Advice to Senior Management
Either find a way to structure projects with bigger margins, or turn those margins into higher salaries for associates and managers. Our people are solid, but can be underpaid which makes them a prime target for headhunters.
Pros
- Workload is manageable
- Great exposure to clients and senior management
Cons
- Stockamp culture breeds individuals who are very close minded/not willing to listen to new ideas
- Too many workplace relationships between Managers and Associates or Associates and Analysts, etc.
- Salary is below industry standards
- Weak HR department
Pros
- Management is extremely accessible and communicates well with the various practices
- Great opportunities for advancement
- Exposure to wide variety of clients across the country
- Excellent culture within the office
- Feel supported by my co-workers
Cons
- Travel can be tough as a consultant, which is not news to anyone
- No real cons about working at Huron
Pros
Good business model on the Healthcare side- provides value for clients
Senior Management seems competent and knows the business well
Good benefits and focus on giving back to the community
Smart, capable front-line employees
Cons
I found my manager to be heavy on criticism, very low on encouragement and appreciation
Seems to confuse "employee development" with negative feedback (to management: positive reinforcement is much more effective in developing and motivating employees)
Experienced hires can feel sidelined and talked down to especially when bringing new ideas
Many managers don't have experience outside Huron so it is hard for them to identify with people who do
Advice to Senior Management
One of the top factors of employee satisfaction is their relationship with their manager. This should be the top focus when defining the culture.
Evaluate the reasoning behind hiring experienced hires and if goals are being met. There seems to be a high attrition with experienced hires in certain areas.
Pros
My colleagues were very supportive and encouraged team work.
Cons
Senior leadership seemed to be arrogant and demeaning to employees. I felt it was sort of a "boys club" at the top level. I think there were a couple women in senior positions but it is obvious the "boys club" are the real decsion makers
Advice to Senior Management
Very unimpressed with Jim Roth and Gordon Mountford. Machiavellian management styles. We all got the sense that they inherited their power and positions and did not earn them.
Pros
The people are wonderful. Huron does an excellent job recruiting well qualified, intelligent, personable individuals.
Excellent compensation and benefits.
Cons
Some of the client sites are in less than desirable locations.
Paid Time Off is on a rolling calendar.
Bonuses are based off of working January through December, and paid out in March.
Advice to Senior Management
Maintain the excellent service you provide to clients!
Pros
Lots of opportunity for on the job training.
Strong mentor program.
Very nice people, and everyone is very accommodating.
Good compensation package.
Cons
Lots of travel. Forced to specialize in one industry, as opposed to other consulting firms that encourage you to rotate.
Advice to Senior Management
Institute more formal training.
Increase benefits package in order to be more competitive with other consulting firms.
Allow new hires to rotate positions.
Pros
Professional Development and business plan
Cons
Compensation package not in line with market.
Advice to Senior Management
To keep good people you need to have better compensation
Pros
Good work life balance - paid time off is generous.
Cons
Lots of travel in some instances
Pros
Good to employees; flexibility in time off for employees; good teamwork; ability to work remotely as circumstances dictate; interesting projects.
Cons
Like many public consulting firms, chargeability is very important. Depending on projects, extensive travel may be required. Sometimes limited ability to choose your projects, depending on your level.
