Pros
great hotel benefits, promotes from within, small company that is growing and expanding their brand, lots of good programs coming from corporate office
Cons
demanding from a work/personal time balance perspective, company is newly public and it shows in some of our business practices as loyalty is not rewarded anymore
Advice to Senior Management
improve focus on balancing work and personal life for managers, all know about the industry hours but still makes it difficult to bring your best every day
Pros
Hyatt has good benefits- health insurance, paid vacation, comp room nights, employee/ friends and family discounts, etc. Pay is comparable to other corporate luxurious hotels.
Cons
If working in operations- be ready to work long hours, weekends, and nights. Salary managers are required to work 10 hours a day at minimum. Management committee is somewhat out of touch with lower level employees and managers. Management is more concerned about pinching pennys than anything else. Obsessed with receiving high scores on guest surveys, but does not want to provide the staff to do so. Understaffed severely.
Advice to Senior Management
If you want better guest sat. scores, pay for it. Provide appropriate number of staff during high occupancy. Employees are not happy having to perform 4 jobs and getting paid for 1.
Pros
Not a hard job and the money is good
Cons
Management is horrible and often blames employees for their lack of leadership ability
Pros
Above average rate of promotability, most promotions came from internal canidates which gave entry level management opportunities.
Cons
Compensation below competition, getting promotions often includes having to relocate, ability to recruit good employees is poor, management trainees often would not last more than two years before leaving the company.
Focus is all about cutting costs, never about increasing food quality or service standards. When efforts to increase standards are implimented, when the slow summer months arrive there are always knee jerk reactions to cutting more costs even when the result will be lower standards.
Advice to Senior Management
Increase compensation and improve hiring practices
Pros
Good opportunity to learn and grow at your own pace. Friendly staff and managers although there is a very high turnover rate for the sales department as well as the restaurant due to the large number of interns. The Park Hyatt is the most upscale hyatt brand and there is some very strict rules imposed on employee's to keep it that way.
Cons
The pay I feel is lower compared to other luxury hotels in the area. Let's try to hire less interns. It is ridiculous the number of people that come and go at this hotel. There is a humongous gap between managers and non-managers.
Advice to Senior Management
Let's not make such a big gap between managers and employees. I feel it is a bit unfair that only managers are allowed to go to a going away party for an employee who transfer's away or goes to another hotel.
Pros
Hyatt tries to employ people with a certain personality which makes sure everyone you work with is friendly and committed to their work. The managers are incredibly respectful. Time off is allowed before you even qualify for vacation days. Transferring departments is pretty fast and simple.
Cons
Some of the guests that stay at the Hyatt take the name to an extreme by expecting things way above and beyond the norm.
Pros
They work with you and around your school schedule. The managers are easy going and will help out if you need help with anything or have any questions.
Cons
There is a little bit of office politics, but now it is winding back down since a manager was fired.
Pros
I've always been proud to say I work for Hyatt and personally take pride in my work and care about the company - not just looking at it as a paycheck. I've been employed with Hyatt for a number of years and feel the compensation and benefits are good.
Cons
Some internal departments have been cut down to bare bones and full time employees are being told to work 4 day weeks and use either a vacation day or take a day without pay. It's obvious that business is booming. We're told the stock holders want more money so this is how they are getting it. Management is weak and morale is low. "Do more with less" is the new mantra.
Advice to Senior Management
Your employees can be your best friends and allies when you treat them respectfully. A strong organization is built on a solid foundation, but when you start chipping away underneath, by cutting hours, jobs, etc. you are breaking down the essence of what has made you so successful - the employees who really care about doing a good job. Internal customer service should be as important as external. Employees don't need the beat-down; how about treating others as you would like to be treated and making that the daily mantra? Maybe you could walk a day or two in your employees shoes, observing the customer service they provide. Please stop cutting hours and jobs, and focus more attention on appreciating and retaining your good employees. If you continue the "behind the scenes" job and hours cutting, customers will undoubtedly notice the diminished care they and the hotels are receiving. I'd love to have my pride with Hyatt restored.
Pros
Learn a lot about food & beverage operations. Worked 10 hotels in 13 years.
I worked with many very talented under paid managers.
Cons
Hyatt "Corp" plan of operation is to work it's managers GM to mid level hard , keeping them under the gun. On the edge to get the most out of them. Working them 6 days, making them take shifts from team members (saving $$$$).
This is and has been their mode of operation to everyone a touch of Hyatt!
Advice to Senior Management
Take lesson from other hotel companies, make fair profit.... how much money do they (the owners) need in Chicago? Really ?
Pros
Great set of Payroll Agents at Shared Services level as well HRD's, Assistant HRDS and support staff at hotel level to work with. Great benefits.
Cons
Favoritism, nothing gets done. The Payroll Managers/Supervisors have nothing to do with the Payroll Agents except to mostly make them feel incompetent. When issues are given to Directors of the Shared Service facility or the HRD there nothing is ever done to resolve issues. Certain employees if favored are selected for advancement positions regardless if they should be in those positions or not. (Not angry that someone was selected over me because I was in a Supervisory position). I left there dissatisfied with the way Management and Directors ran the company. Things are falling apart in the Payroll Department and they just turn their backs and look away. Sad!
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention. The people in place of for your Management Team and Supervisor team in the Payroll Department aren't doing a job that you would be proud of. The department is falling apart and upper management needs to open an eye and see what is really happening.
