Pros
Very good tips, nice people to work with. fair benefits
Cons
No recognition from management. No advancment in career
Pros
Great name recognition for the brand
Cons
Bad benefits package
1 week off for first year
Pros
- If observant , you can learn a lot about the industry.
- Cafeteria meal provided at no cost.
- Full time opportunities and benefits (dental, medical etc)
- Monthly they have a "show" for the GM where many of the departments give praise to an employee, but if it were not mandatory, it would never happen. That employee has a chance at getting some cash by participating in games.
Cons
-Micro-management, management feels pressure from corporate and it then becomes a negative and hostile environment. Takes away from the empowerment of pleasing the guests when so many are questioning every step or decision made.
- The management can be catty and clique-ish and information sharing is more on fellow colleagues than professional matters that could lead to higher maritz scores and happier guests. It is common to overhear your name or a fellow coworkers in a negative way. Leads to a very unprofessional environment and frankly takes away the joy of the hospitality business.
- Everyone, including senior management is constantly on edge, so that stress trickled down to the individual hotel level.
As any hotel, your schedule is a typical 5 or 6 days a week, the more you move up within the company the more hours demanded.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to appreciate your guests, do not rely so heavily on the front desk to make all the effort for building rapport. Respect the staff, senior management bickers entirely too much about each other and frequent disregards others opinions.
The brand that employees are suppose to represent would be better if management took the time to fix the problem and communication break down over quick fixes.
Pros
Definitely you will learn a lot .
Cons
Do not expect to enjoy , very busy all the time.
Advice to Senior Management
Please consider your staff and treat them as humans not machines.
Pros
The only real pro about working for Hyatt Hotels is the employee room rate and F&B discount at other hotels.
Cons
Do not expect to have a work life balance, especially if you have a family.
Associates are insincere and cold.
Advice to Senior Management
Sales Managers are only human and not revenue machines.
Quit focusing, constantly pointing out the negatives & recognize the achievements.
Pros
Fantastic opportunity to learn if you are inexperienced.
There are some great perks for travel and dining discounts.
Cons
Management in general is very young and either first time experienced or years of experience within this corporation solely. I see lots of pressure from the top roles down into a panic frenzy to micro manage and meet Maritz customer satisfaction scores. It gets to the point that they forget about you as an employee or person.
Some management has been poorly trained. Many hired based on their ability to be either a pawn or a dictator.
Beware of properties without Union.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember to encourage front line management to report difficulties with honesty rather than telling what they believe you would like to hear in order to look good at what they do. In order to solve problems, they should be researched and addressed for what they are rather than hidden and left to fester. Handling matters with open honesty is what will lead to improving work ethic and guest experience at the property. It is amazing how much Senior management is mislead on due to unethical middle level management.
Pros
Great place to work for those seeking a career with a great hotel company. This company is full of great people who really want the best for the company and their colleagues.
Cons
This is a hospitality company which means you need to be available pretty much all of the time. But if you love to service others it is very rewarding.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on service is fantastic and what we all love about the company. Keep in mind the resources needed when attempting to manage the many items that we all concentrate on.
Pros
Promote from within
Free or discounted rooms worldwide
Good place to start your career in the industry.
Managers care about you
Cons
Mid-level managers suffer (lots of hours, sometimes have no choice but to work as front-line employees)
almost no job advancement if u r unwilling to relocate.
some hotels are understaffed
underpaid
Advice to Senior Management
Please hire more employees, so managers can concentrate on creative work & administrative duties.
Pros
Great benefits, decent starting pay, option to explore other areas of employment within the hotel, good teamwork most of the time
Cons
Poor communication between the departments, ie; front of the house, back of the house, etc. Very infrequent praise from upper management
Advice to Senior Management
slow down on the coaching sessions please. there is only so much you can do to avoid sounding repetitive every 2 weeks
Pros
great benefits, excellent training, beautiful properties, wonderful team members. I would recommend the Hyatt to anyone looking to get into the hotel industry.
Cons
long hours, mandatory holidays, mandatory weekends, graveyard shifts, extended over time without breaks, cafateria food needs improvement, several changes amongst management staff.
Advice to Senior Management
Empower your team members, give kudos a lot, learn your employees names, interact with all departments, smile, have fun, enjoy!
