    I worked at Hyatt

    Pros

    - work with people from all over the world
    - superb training
    - high level of service
    - benefits (medical, vacation)
    - great coworkers
    - diversity

    Cons

In some departments it is very difficult to move up. Will promote a friend or a relative in some cases. Compared to other chains, salaries are not lower. Bonus since at the end of the year not always fair.

    I worked at Hyatt

    Pros

If you work for the right person or team, you will grow in the company. Great benefits, training and people.

    Cons

If you work for the wrong person it is hard to get ahead. Some departments are very separated, I worked for a department where they never made me feel as if I was a part of the team. But, not all are like that. It depends on your leader!!

I worked at Hyatt full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This is the smallest of the large hotel chains, its culture is potent and inspiring. Hyatt values its employees and has great creative ways of appreciating the people that make the company what it is. It is a wonderful place for young managers to start out as far as promotions (lateral and vertical), and it is a great way to explore different areas of expertise since there are so many professions that make up a hotel. It is great if you are looking to gain managerial experience, love to work with people or travel! It is also great because many people in the company are cross trained, making it not only easier to cover shifts, but come to respect and appreciate many different lines of work.

    Cons

The hours can be long. Very long. Expect to work weekends and holidays, for your alarm to be blaring before most or driving home hours later than most. The experience overall is positive and worthwhile, but the leaders of your property make all the difference. Also sometimes moving up, means moving out. You are expected to take every opportunity that comes your way even if that means uprooting and leaving everything you know behind in as small as a weeks time. That con is only really a con depending on the person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a friend in every department. Having allies and knowing your resources will make your job easier and allow you to creatively solve problems and come up with new ideas. Do not demand respect from your staff, earn it. Most of these associates have been with the company for years and have seen managers come and go. Learn your ins and outs from them, because no one knows the operation better than they.

I have been working at Hyatt as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Hyatt Corp is really considerate of it's employees. The benefits bar none are some of the best out there. They like to cross train and promote from within.

    Cons

Working in a management capacity the hours get very long. Any hotel is an institution that never closes. They train employees , sometimes young managers are maintaining 12-14 hour days . Salaries are low , very low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think that upper management needs to understand that managers will put in long hours and hard work BUT need to be compensated financially .

    Pros

money, short shift and thats about it

    Cons

Management treat on- call staff like we are nothing. Working with temp staff is torture, they never do anything and rarely speak english

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

just because we are "no call" doesnt mean we are low lifes and cant get a full time job,. This is in addition to my full time job
