I have been working at Hydro One as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits and most people are laid back.
Good location, right next to Eaton Centre.

    Cons

Sometimes depending on your position not enough work is given and later on you'll find yourself scrambling to get done the work they forgot to assign you. This is all more based on your supervisor.

    Recommends

    No opinion of CEO

Great learning experience but too much hierarchy

    I worked at Hydro One

    Pros

As an IT professional, I found Hydro One a good place to learn. They are always at the forefront and not shy about utilizing new technology.

    Cons

    - Very political organization
    - Tons of questionable and frankly useless processes like approval and meetings, etc. Quite often the time to complete the process takes longer than the real work itself.
    - Upper management is completely out of touch with the technology being used and thus fails to provide direction.
    - Employees not up to date with the new technology being used. So implementation usually runs into challenges.

I worked at Hydro One full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Salary and benefits were the main reasons coupled with regular bonuses made being paid for what you did an important reason to stay.

    Cons

There were not many cons other than the organization itself had for 15 years a hard time understanding the correct reporting relationship for security.

I worked at Hydro One as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Very good compensation, way better than industry standards.

    Cons

Horrible office politics. Very hard to work. Some incompetent management and consultants with strong strings and forever engagements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention on ability to deliver and qualification of lower management. Don't hire more new unqualified guys. Follow your own corporate rule and fire "old" useless contractors.

I worked at Hydro One as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good job security, decent salary and benefits. Nice people and management. Good training for new employees, possible career development but somewhat difficult as is more seniority based.

    Cons

Somewhat slow work place, lots of standards and practices in place make innovation and new ideas difficult. Kind of old school company with older management practices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to be more empathetic with employees.
