Pros
Short Term purposes and good for between the jobs. Their pay and benefits are OK when compared to other companies.
Cons
No long term gain as you won't be promoted unless you can play politics. Lot of bureaucracy within the company and no fairness within the promotions of the company.Lot of discrimination within the company and there is no respect to the people who work harder.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to eliminate the bureaucracy and be fair while judging the people with their work and not with their politics.
Pros
A lot of wonderful and smart people work here, which education ranging from bachelor's to phd level. Because of that, there's a lot one can learn from his or her peers. It feels like a place where employees are encouraged to learn. One of the great things here is that you might get to work on cool problems, that are neat to think about, and come up with a solution to.
Cons
Unfortunately, a lot of things don't operate as they should. the computing environment isn't set up in a way that lets engineers work efficiently. in addition, there continues to be a huge lack of communication between different teams.
Advice to Senior Management
try to make better decisions, though it is a tough environment, with a lot of competition out there. and create an environment where people communicate as necessary. i see some changes that might be a good start.
Pros
- If you are smart and work hard, opportunities are abound for career advancement and personal challenges
- Intelligent and compitent peers
- IAC is careful not to add unnecessary bureaucratic layers within the organization, instead demanding full accountability at all levels including top management
- With a strong balance sheet, IAC is one of the few companies positioned to be opportunistic in the current market. Subsidiaries (and their employees) will benefit greatly; they will be able to pursue strategic acquisitions and position themselves for the market rebound
Cons
- Despite industry, the company's strengths lean toward business acumen instead of innovation
Advice to Senior Management
- Direct more HR energy towards current employees, building a stronger talent pipeline between portoflio companies and the corporate office
Pros
best place to learn about the internet business. you work with leaders in the business. there is clear sharing of knowledge among businesses and people. it is a very young company.
Cons
lack of appetite for innovation.
Advice to Senior Management
invest more in people and learn to manage good talent
Pros
Honestly, I can't think of any for working at Ask.com. I kinda like the employee perks from IAC Connect which offers cell phone plan discounts. If one's interested in the Indian culture, there are plenty of opportunity to learn about it from your outsourced Cognizant contractor.
Cons
Shortsightedness, lack of communication, no regards for employee's opinion. Professional development is a joke. Epitomizes corporate culture -- you're expendable.
Advice to Senior Management
Resign.
Pros
IAC companies are actually a large enterprise that still feels like a startup. There are few rules, few processes. It is nimble and fast. You feel like there is MUCH to be done and you may actually be requested to wear many hats. Your contributions will be noticeable and be released to the public in short time.
Cons
On the other hand, the lack of organization is also its own demise. Many team leaders do not follow standard procedures, they skip basic development processes, there is almost no quality assurance, the code is mostly a patch upon a hack, and developers are NOT top-notch. Everything seems a bit amateurish and there is no connection between any of the IAC companies. A lot of wasted effort goes into projects that go nowhere. Employee attrition is common.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to listen to the actual employees. Make decissions more open, question CEO's mercurial no-holds-barred authority and investigate some of their behavior.
Pros
Dynamic company, this is the mini-Google of the internet. Great, young culture. If you work hard, execute your objectives and are constantly pushing to improve, you will succeed here. If you are someone who just wants to have the safety of a clear cut job where all you do is what is on your job description, then go home at 5pm.. This isn't the place for you. Work hard, play hard, thats the overall culture at IAC.
Cons
Not suitable for the faint of heart. This place will eat you up quickly if you cannot handle tight deadlines, highly visible work and transparency. Courage, skills, ingenuity and intelligence are highly sought after and rewarded here.
Advice to Senior Management
Fatten up our balance sheet and be more aggressive on taking opportunities with aquisitions. We are sometimes too risk averse. Strike a good balance.
Pros
potential for moving into other businesses, or at least they say so, but I've never really seen it happen
Cons
no employee stock purchase plan, options that are always under water
Advice to Senior Management
stop trying to appease everyone. you will never keep everyone happy. make the tough product roadmap decisions that will bring the best products to our consumers, even if it puts you in hot water with certain groups in the company.
Pros
Health insurance benefits are good. Co-workers are great. Job is centrally located.
Cons
Salaries are out of wack. Positions are out of wack. Work load should be handled bye more people. Recognition, fairness and respect are poorly lacking. {COPY OF NEXT SECTION; What advice or feedback would you give to Senior Management? --> Adjust salaries to be fair to all workers, because new hire salaries for some positions are high than those who are training them. Career opportunites are limited mainly because of being understaffed so the work/life balance is an outpoint.Communication is detached and in some cases broken between senior management and the rest of the company. Recognition, fairness and respect are poorly lacking.}

Pros
Free food, drinks, and a nice building. Some of the divisions have a very entrepreneurial spirit and are very respectful of their employees. They encourage a healthy work-life balance and promote within. Some also have a remarkably low turnover which is the opposite of the corporate office.
Cons
Compensation is well below the average. If they want to keep good employees they have to start paying them properly. Employees who have been with the company for a long and did not receive stock options from the start rarely - if ever - are offered them down the road. Everything needs to be negotiated and many items are nit-picked.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more respectful of your employees. They work very hard for you and more often than not their work is neither noticed nor appreciated.
