Pros
You can work on as many projects based on your interest. Most of the employees have ample time to complete a milestone which enables to concentrate on other stuff.
Cons
The compensation is less when compared with other companies. Also the perks and other benefits are also minimum. Freshers are not given an chance to choice their team.
Advice to Senior Management
Freshers must be informed before about the job role they would be posted and their preference whether they would like it or not . This is because shifting within teams in IBM is kind of difficult unless the manager is an understanding person.
Pros
Work life balance, Work from home flexibility, no manager harasssment
Cons
Incompetent Senior Management, Bad pay, faulty performance review parameters
Advice to Senior Management
The gap between competent Indian resources and incompetent western functional managers will make you lose Indian managers very fast.
Pros
exposure to best practice, technology
Cons
multiple projects so long hours at office
Pros
The policies allow for a very flexible work culture. They insist on work completion within the stipulated time and with the expected (or more than expected) quality. The managers do not keep pounding you for an update every now and then and give enough freedom to perform your role as you deem fit.
Cons
The internal employee operations and administration process is very poor. If an employee has to raise something as simple as a reimbursement claim, there are a lot of pains he/she has to bear to eventually get the reimbursement. Another instance would be - no one seems to know how to apply for a VISA, even if it is as common as a US H1B petition. The employee has to run from pillar to post to find out what the procedure is and then implement it. These are some instances of bad back-end administration/operations for employee services.
Advice to Senior Management
Create a solid process and stick to it.
Pros
Flexibile working hours and Work from home is the best part of IBM.
Quite methodical...often on the beaurocratic level
Cons
.The lowest pay scales dosent excite one at all. More work t be done by fewer no of people. They squeeze the last energy out of you, but in a graceful way though. appraisal happens..but no great increments!!!!
Pros
Looks good on Resume, work with diverse group of people, good opportunities for advancement, and depending on what area you work in, good job stability.
Cons
Senior Management is expecting us to do much more with less. New hires do not get enough training before they are put in front of the customer.
Advice to Senior Management
Training!! Don't hire people who have no experience and expect us to represent them as "expereinced" to the customer. Eliminate the amount of "blue tape" in the company. I feel like I spend 95% of my time filling out IBM forms/authorizations and 5% doing actual technical work. Also, our customer satisfaction rates are going down (despite no matter how you manipulate or get your feedback data.) We need to invest more in our people to stay competitive. And Sam+Virginia, the '7 year lifecycle' of an employee doesn't do you any good in turnover rates...
Virginia, congrats on your promotion. I hope we see more logical changes inside of IBM. And yes, there still is a market for IT jobs in the US. I recently had a customer come back to the US after being outsourced to India. While outsourcing is a tool, it should not be abused.
Good luck.
Pros
Really thrilling engineering challenges and problems to solve. Feeling to be surrounded by competent and intelligent persons. Interns are well perceived and can wander around the whole site to ask questions on their problems. Their insight is appreciated.
Montpellier is a cool city.
Cons
Not extremely fast-paced, maybe not enough for some. Intern pay is low compared to standards. Sometimes they don't have much work for interns and consequently give you stupid tasks.
Advice to Senior Management
Create a real internship program, more orientated towards the intern, not simply involving him on a team that doesn't always need him and only gives him work "on the go". Make it more fast-paced.
Pros
- Industry leader
- Workplace flexibility
- Competent Management
Cons
- Large teams with internal politics
Pros
best place for work in
rich oppurtunity for learning and growing
Cons
Long working time
too much con-calls in the evening
Advice to Senior Management
Always keep the employees motivated with competitive compensation within the industry
Pros
Flexibility
Work from Home
Good Projects
Many talented people to work with
Cons
Very Process Oriented
you need to take care of your own growth
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing specific, Just take care of the growth of talented and hard working people to retain them
