I have been working at IBM India full-time

    Pros

I have been working at IBM India full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. No micromanagement. Opportunities to work from home. Excellent health insurance plans which you hardly see with even full-time US employers

    Cons

Pay is really just enough to get you by. Not anywhere near market salaries for the skills and experience. And then they have a 3 months notice period, and huge penalties if you want to leave sooner, if you find someone who pays better here.

    Advice to Management

Pay real market driven salaries when people are sent to USA on assignments. The salary in India stays practically the same while you are on an assignment abroad; so, it makes sense to pay well in USA.

I worked at IBM India full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    1. Large organization, with a fair share of talented people. 2. Varied and interesting projects, if you are lucky. 3. Opportunities for growth. 4. Opportunities to travel to interesting places & internationally and work on challenging projects.

    Cons

    1. bureaucratic i.e. the exact opposite of lean management. 2. managers are mostly not empowered. 3. shrinking perks. 4. increasing attrition.

    Advice to Management

Worked at IBM from 2002 to 2012 nearly 13 years, was sad to go. The organization I remember when I joined was full of people motivated about the company's mission, I cannot say that when I finally left. My advice would be to focus on long term growth and viability, invest in top talent, workforce motivation even if this comes at the cost of EPS.
