Innovative, creative, strong focus on employee development and training, opportunities abound, employees are pushed to perform their best.

IBM --a national treasure that has lost its way

    I worked at IBM

    Pros

401K is decent. Benefits are better than some; worse than others. The check comes on time.

    Cons

Extremely demanding and short term focused. Lack of management ability to plan and manage new opportunities. Little consideration of an individuals performance is actually tied to their rating system. The numbers are pre-set and management must adhere to the plans they are given. A certain percentage will be rated high and a certain percentage will be rated low. This ensures that executives will meet their targets and serves to limit the opportunities for salary and bonus increases for tha average employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have taken what was once described as a "national treasure" and put it on the global trash heap in your efforts to increase your own salaries and bonuses. Sam Palmisano wasn't able to fix the problems at the PC company and is following the greed driven agenda of Lou Gerstner in taking care of himself first. Recently Sam attended a CEO session at the White House and proudly spoke of hiring increases in the coming year. Unfortunately, none of those hired will come from America. The IBM executive management team can be used as a case study of what went wrong in American Business. Their loyalty is certainly not to America, yet, it is here that they make most of their money.
