I worked at IBM part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Your manager is always willing to help you. Everyone traets you with respect and make you feel part of the IBM community. You can meet many people from different areas and learn about new things easily. Very flexible working hours.

    Cons

The company is very big and sometimes it could be difficult to understand how your job is giving a benefit to the company. But at the same time it could be a good opportunty since you get into contact with many people.

    Advice to Management

The management is made by some very prepared and expert people and they are very open to listen from others.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

from my point of view IBM should really draw up guidelines for proper internships

  10. IBM is a great place to work, especially if you don't like a high-stress environment.

    Pros

Flex schedules, name recognition, and global opportunities. IBM allows employees to work remotely if they so desire, which is hugely beneficial especially with gas closing in on $5/gallon. It is one of the most recognizable brands in the world, and is a definite resume builder. Finally, IBM has offices in just about every major market around the world, allowing employees a huge array of geographic work possibilities.

    Cons

Massive corporation, with all the benefits and drawbacks that come with it. It can be difficult to work in some situations with so many co-workers working remotely.

    Advice to Management

Be more flexible in approach to the market.

  11. IBM from the lowest level

    Pros

The best reasons to work for IBM are the competetive pay, community, and flexibility. As an intern, I am paid far beyond what most others my age with similar education are being paid. Very far beyond. IBM strives to create a sense of community, especially with interns who are being evaluated for possible full-time hire. There are organized tours, classes, meetings, and events for interns and we are strongly encouraged to attend. IBM is also very fair and flexible when it comes to scheduled and unscheduled time off- even for employees who are being paid hourly. Illness and emergency days have never been an issue.

    Cons

Some of the downsides of working at IBM are the "nerd factor," the cultish-ness and arrogance of some employees, and the fact that the attempts to build community are sometimes overbearing. Most people who work at IBM are very nerdy and socially awkward, which can make them uncomfortable to be around and hard to communicate with. IBMers also fully believe that they are the best and their company is the best and that just because they are working at IBM they are somehow better than any other people in the technology field. Another downside is that sometimes IBM doesn't realize that employees have their own lives and friend and don't want to go to lunch, happy hour, and paintball with co-workers. There is sometimes pressure to attend optional activities outside of work hours.

    Advice to Management

The advice or feedback I would give to Senior Management would be to do more to open up the lines of communication from the lowest-level employees to the higher-level employees. I have never communicated with anyone more than one rank above me, and while this may change as time goes on, it is still a reminder of how low on the food chain I am.
