I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I salary is around the average. Company allows you to grow if you work to it. Lots of good things in IT happens at IBM, mainly cloud, mobile, database, etc. It is definitely a place to stay n touch with very recent technologies. Benefits are good too. Definitely Home Office is a major benefit to me. It is easy to find experts for any IT area, like people that wrote the books you read at school work for IBM. This is awesome !!!

    Cons

Due to its big size, there are tons of process even for small things. You are required to run into education courses not related to your day to day job. Even though there is space to grow, things are VERY slow. Appraisal process is like a pain in the and the results are not always clear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IBM should start thinking to get close to end users, not only companies. We should have products like the ones Google or Apple have. The general public has to recon and think about IBM as a big IT solution provider not only for their business, but for people as well. Getting close to people, will make us get close to their business.

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Home office and flexibility is allowed for some job titles and this is excellent for work-life balance. You will know people around the world, develop relationships and learn cultural differences. IBM is always innovating and is ahead of its competitors in terms of raising technologies.

    Cons

The salaries and sales incentives are usually inferior comparing to competitors. Too much bureaucracies and processes that impact day-to-day work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Negotiate your salary before you join, since afterwards it´s very hard to get any increase.

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice company to work. I have learned a lot in this company.

    Cons

Although I faced some hard times, it was possible to learn with then. The most important are the people and how they interpret the company guidelines.

I have been working at IBM as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance, good benefits, nice people, lots of learning opportunities

    Cons

Not enough challenges, pays below the average, processes are not very transparent, very laid back people, which at times can be annoying, especially if you are younger and want to grow in your career

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent and try to focus on the younger employees. They are the future of IBM.

I have been working at IBM full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The knowledge database and learning opportunities are countless. You can have access to a imense amount of courses, webcasts, teleconferences and others sources of knowledge, by doing a few mouse clicks. The managers tend to incentive you to get certificated and/or get graduated in your area of expertise. Overrall, this is the place to get experienced and learn.

    Cons

The metrics systems are everywhere, and sometimes they do speak in your place. The "freeze" situation (where the company doesn't hire or promote anyone) may hold your carrer plans for a few years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management team should participate and be more open for employees opinions.

I worked at IBM as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Very stable company, they're really understanding with your study and personal needs. Also, as it has many people working there for years, you can learn a lot from them. Processes very defined, not always dynamic and sometimes a little too bureaucratic, but at least we always have a guidance on next steps.

    Cons

The amount time that you have worked in the company counts more than your efforts, this is not nice. It make us feel a little unmotivated sometimes.
