I worked at ICANN full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I spent the last five and a half years at ICANN and I can honestly say they were the most fulfilling of my career. The management team is excellent and the benefits are out of this world. They include 100% paid healthcare plans, and a 401(k) that matches dollar-for-dollar up to 10% of your earnings. Pay is good to great depending on where you are in the world. Vacation time starts at three weeks off plus holidays and they are closed during the Christmas/New Year’s week.

Management is doing a good job professionalizing a rapidly growing company and the team in place now has a lot on their plate but much of it leans toward improving the employee experience. The offices are almost brand new and working in Playa Vista is a joy! AND new retail and mixed use space is almost complete.

    Cons

Lots of growth brings some growing pains but management is addressing employee concerns along the way.

I worked at ICANN as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

They gave me projects that I enjoyed and work that would help me progress. I was challenged constantly and given plenty of responsibility early on. The training was great and the company culture was outstanding.

    Cons

Some office politics that I was not involved in but heard about through the grapevine. Some of their procedures in certain areas seemed outdated to me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire young talent.

I have been working at ICANN full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Competitive compensation, quick opportunities for growth and development, great medical, dental, vision, 401k benefits, generally good office location, extremely diverse workforce

    Cons

poor work-life balance; very heavy work loads and high performance expectations, strong micro-management culture, very vocal leadership with little follow-through to change own behavior/dept. culture (top-down example)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

evolve from putting out fires to preventing them

    Pros

    Cons

Takes a while to learn everything; it's unlike any other place to work. Very specific.

Benefits are the best, but the bureaucracy doesn't make them worth it

I have been working at ICANN

    Pros

One word... benefits. They are the best I have ever seen.

    Cons

bureaucracy. Can't accomplish anything because everyone/ every department not only wants a say, but actually gets a say. And legal pretty much runs the show. Nothing gets done without their approval, which wouldn't be so bad if their turnaround was faster. This effects every single role at ICANN, no matter how low or high you are here.
