    I worked at ICC Lowe

    Pros

Exposure to many brands and parts of the agency as a whole. Made a lot of friends

    Cons

Upper management. There is so much ego and no mentorship. You can tell your supervisor over and over where you want to go and how you'd like to grow - and they could be completely supportive of that - but as soon as it is taken to the higher ups, it's like the conversation never happened. You're just constantly told why you're not good enough for a higher job position, and they just keep adding more things to the list of responsibilities required, in order to get promoted. It's a broken record.

    Advice to Management

Promote!!! That's why you're losing all of the good ones.

    Pros

Great commute in North Jersey if looking to having a for a place to work in North Jersey with a short commute. Otherwise, pros are extremely limited.

    Cons

People are beyond negative. Extremely political that people are hired because they know someone who is higher up. If you think of a great idea or a great solution for the company that could help expand your workflow, don't expect it to get approved as everything has to go up the ladder and chances are it will fall flat with the person you report into. There is no true direction of the company expect the same old work flow that has gone on for years and people are hired to bring new divisions to the company or new ideas yet the ideas really aren't taken off. It's not a full service agency though they keep trying and failing.

    Advice to Management

Is there management at this company? Feels like a free for all with people doing their own work and no true management.

    Pros

Talented people. The majority (not all) have egos in check. Generally is (or was) a fear-free environment. Congenial atmosphere and teams that like each other get along well. Some fun personalities and not much politics.

    Cons

Since the FCB takeover, some truly excellent folks resigned or were let go; the new hierarchies have a lot of the remaining staff laying low. And/or chafing! Rumors abound about whoiesale dismissals, plus no one is stepping into the leadership vacuum left when the CEO was canned. Another round of idiotic Conference Room renaming led to some Account Execs apologizing to Clients--room names like "Jam" "Spark" "Marvel" -- since when is this the 3rd grade?

    Advice to Management

What management? Who runs the show? Downstairs and Upstairs are more silo'd than ever, and FCB only seems to swoop in like valkyries to chop off heads, scold, or trumpet their superior city-skills and super-cool category experts. Try DOING some management. Invite people to stay, rather than silently threatening to make them leave.

    Pros

Unfortunately at ICC Lowe there are no pros what so ever.

    Cons

ICC Lowe is a unhealthy environment. Nobody knows what they're doing and they don't promote growth in your position. You're stuck there. To many older people who are way out of date on everything. They're still on a folder system and these folders are the size of bibles. Seriously? How ancient can you get. They aren't even doing anything digitally to help their process. People write on rounds and rounds of changes. It's so bad no one can read each other's handwriting, which causes more rounds of work, which keeps everyone at the office late. This is a environment/industry that kills your career. I don't recommend anyone joining it or working in it. It is boring, cut and dry. The work is not fun, and uninteresting. No one likes their job and is miserable. Many people have been fired recently due to FCBs take over. The senior people cower waiting to see if they're going to be fired. What ICC doesn't tell you is that they have 3 offices. ICC Lowe, ICC Lowe Trio, and ICC Pace. They shift their employees around working at various offices because they don't have the budget or money to have talented people working their. These people at the other offices are inexperience, out of date, and obsolete. I've seen some creative directors who can't director or aren't tech savvy with the latest products. They have no knowledge of current application designs and don't understand the concepts of new designs in technology. They repeatedly ask questions. Think of trying to explain how and why a iPhone works to your great grandfather, and they never understand the concept. They create more problems then they solve.

    Advice to Management

Get with the program and update everything, from mangers skills to your routing systems.

    Pros

HR tries to have team building events.

    Cons

Hostile work environment. The agency is stuck in the stone ages. Account teams are terrible and do not know how to manage accounts. Loosing clients rather than gaining new clients. Senior leaders are only concerned with their bonuses. Low level staff bully. Awful place to work.

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone in account and start over. They are dinosours and the agency will not grow with them still managing client relationships.

    Pros

ICC Lowe is located in northern New Jersey. The location is convenient and it means that you can drive home when you finally get to leave at midnight and are half asleep, rather than taking a car service home from a NYC agency.

    Cons

Mid- and senior-level management is unprofessional and cutthroat. Backstabbing is the norm. People work in constant fear. It's a dog-eat-dog environment. The company has been firing older employees with higher salaries on a regular basis for a few years. Although it is pretty well known that these are staff reductions, the company will not admit it and continues to claim it is doing well. The creative work has suffered greatly due to poor direction and an inability to judge quality work by mid- to senior-level managers. The clients are not happy. There is no work-life balance. Employees are pressured to cancel doctor appointments, vacations, holidays, and even the cherished "free" week off between Christmas and New Year's. The health insurance is expensive and not very good. It's not as if you can actually use the health insurance, because you are constantly asked to reschedule essential medical appointments and procedures. The hours are very long. It is the norm to work into the late night hours. Dinner may be free, but it is ordered very late and it's usually just pizza. Combine long hours, junk food, inability to go to the doctor, high stress, and you've got a very unhealthy atmosphere. Now that FCB has bought the company it will be "interesting" to see the very same people who threw others under the bus experience the very same thing.

    Advice to Management

FCB should come in and clean house from mid-level managers all the way up. This applies to both account services and the creative department.

    Pros

The agency was once a creative strength and a well oiled machine, while also maintaining a good balance of work and fun at the same time. I worked here for 5 yrs, and I must say that the first 3 years was a great experience. Learned a lot and worked with MANY good people.

    Cons

After my first 3 years, there was a change in upper management and that's when things changed, not for the better. While I was there during my last 2 yrs, the former president of the company retired. And it must of been felt through out the agency. Many good people either left or were eventually pushed out. The environment started becoming very cut-throat, and quickly faded from the once fun atmosphere, to what it has now become. :(

    Pros

The commute and dental insurance are probably the only positives I can think of at this point. The life insurance is decent as well.

    Cons

This is a politically charged environment and very account driven. There is no work-life balance to speak of. If you are a salaried employee, as most of us are, you won't have much of a life outside of work. We are expected to come in at the last minute on major holidays, to cancel our vacations, and to come in when we are very sick. It's almost a competition to see who can come in sicker. 60- to 70-hour work weeks are the norm. The health insurance is mediocre and costs a lot. Verbal attacks are also the norm. It's truly a miserable place to work. The newer employees are, of course, happier. They are still in the honeymoon period. In time, they will probably have their own stories to tell. There has been a long string of layoffs over the past 3 years. Unfortunately, the company paints each RIF as a firing and handles it very quietly, which is harmful to the laid-off employee's reputation. It also leaves the rest of the staff in fear. Perhaps that is what they want? It's not a healthy work environment.

    Advice to Management

Please stop trying to tell us that the company cares about work-life balance. It's insulting because it is patently false. So many of us end up losing our PTO days at the end of the year because our teams make it impossible to take time off. Also, when having a RIF, please be honest about it instead of allowing rumors to spread about an employee's performance. We all know what's been happening. It is unfair to say negative things about people who have worked very hard for a long time there. It is unprofessional and doesn't lend any credibility to the company.
