    Pros

Great company with an easy to understand corporate structure. Best way to describe the company is "a big company with a small company feel".

    Cons

I honestly do not have a bad thing to say. Just wish there were more projects to go to. I would have stayed with the company instead of moving on.

    Pros

Communicative, and supportive back office. Have great career development path. Very generous benefit package. The recruiting team is helpful to find your next assignment.

    Cons

It is consulting based career, i.e., you must find next assignment by youself once contract is over. Not much connection among contracts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Networking among contracting groups.

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, free coffee, friendly people.

    Cons

The work is not challenging at all and their is no vertical growth for your career. ICF is simply a stepping stone while you look for a career, not a job.

    Pros

Senior management is very friendly to junior staff. They understand that junior staff is required to get the work done.

    Cons

Senior management can be unwilling to hand major responsibilities to junior staff. The mentality that work must be done with the least amount of time billed to clients makes it hard to give junior staff the training that they need to become consultants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your junior staff, and learn to trust them. Do not always assume that they'd just leave the job within 2.5 years.

    I worked at ICF International

    Pros

    Flexibility to work from home.
    Good people.
    Office Culture.

    Cons

    Pay was not competitive.
    Benefits were not competitive.
    Very little work-life balance.
    Over-worked.
    I did not feel valued.
Lack of transparency in promotion and salary decisions.
Management of some projects were dysfunctional.
Upper level management was often promoted to a position not based on merit, but by being part of a large revenue project and as a result were not effective in their positions.
    Office location was not great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have transparency in how reviews and other metrics (e.g., utilization) factor into promotions and raises.
Act like you value younger staff, so they don't feel like they are.
Be better at communicating company policies especially benefits when they change or are cut back.

    Pros

If you're young and starting out your career, this is a great place to work. Lots of opportunities to learn and grow, plus office space is lovely, nice holiday parties and good compensation.

    Cons

You can start to feel like a commodity. Overemphasis on billability and the bottom line. For the most part, upper middle management is poorly trained, and people are very stressed out.

I Don't Wake Up Dreading Work

    Pros

Work/Life balance is great; I tend to be a bit of a workaholic but I'm glad it's not forced. Knowledgeable colleagues. Managers vary but I haven't heard of many terrible ones and mine is great. Company has lots of long-term projects (consulting can be very volatile). PTO accrual seems a little low and you can only carry over two weeks between calendar years. Most of the benefits packages are middle of the road; not bad, not spectacular.

    Cons

PAY! Pay varies among the different LOBs and divisions but apparently mine is the red-headed stepchild. I get paid about $8,000 less than the low end for my job title when I looked it up here (granted, the same job title can do any number of tasks within the company. What I do isn't particularly easy). Being in the DC area, anything less than $40,000 is near-poverty. My raise was less than the spot bonuses at my last job. Going to meetings and hearing about all the multi-million contracts they won while getting paid about $35k can be deflating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My direct manager and even two and three ups are great. They're probably the reason I've undervalued myself pay-wise for two years; I know what it's like to hate going to work. On the flip side, with pay versus cost of living in DC, I know what it's like to not be able to do much besides work. From what I gather in all hands meetings, turnover in my division is a little higher than average, it's almost certainly because of pay.
