    I have been working at ICON full-time for more than a year


    100% home working. Flexible with employees. Considerate to Family life eg when children sic. Good pay rise.


    Not clear on promotional opportunities and little focus on appraisals etc. feel managers over resourced and therefore many 1 to 1s cancelled. Feel I may need to go elsewhere for advancement which is ashame as I don't feel it's due to performance. Better cross dept communication needed to ensure more effective working and to win more work from competitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Free up managers workload to and emphasise importance of training and mentoring staff. Encourage managers to have aspirational discussion with staff and how employees can get to the next level.

    I worked at ICON


    Like all CROs, working as a CRA here is a good way to get experience across a range of trials.


    Never had a line manager the whole time i worked there. So there was no career development or assessment, making it impossible to ever be promoted or get feedback on my performance.
    Also, all the CRAs were stretched too thinly over the trials, making it impossible to monitor effectively. Even after ICON got a warning letter from the FDA over its monitoring it didn't really address the problem effectively. Management listened but couldnt' do anything. It came down to money at the end of the day. In summary, ICON is a place to work at for a while to cut your teeth as a CRA and then get out. There are better employers out there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give people proper line managers who are available in the office/country where their charges are. Look at resourcing and stop giving CRAs greater than 100% allocation to studies.
