I have been working at ICON full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Position is home-based. Great benefits, pay, and staff. Upper management recognizes the organizational problems and taking steps to fix them.

    Cons

Too many metrics and systems that need to be checked and manually updated on a regular basis. On paper the workload is not bad but when you add in all of the manually checks & updates, it leads to a ton of work and frustration. There is a lot of staff turnover resulting in long hours covering work for the people who have left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less metrics and streamline SOPs and processes.

I worked at ICON full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I honestly can't think of one Pro.

    Cons

If you enjoy working for a company that has total disregard for its employees then ICON is the place for you! There used to be a lot of talented people that worked at ICON. However as leadership continues with their authoritarian style they will continue to drive people from the company.

Envision the worst company to work for and that is exactly what ICON is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pointless to give any advice as senior leadership wouldn't listen anyways.

I worked at ICON full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, great pay, good work/life balance, great people

    Cons

It's fast paced and intense at times but good outweighs the bad

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More incentive given to people with really intense projects would be helpful but overall it's a great place to work.

I worked at ICON full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Exciting projects across a wide variety of therapy areas and sponsors

    Cons

People are not valued as they were 5 years ago. Having been a global department head, my compensation was okay but generally the company has become very tight fisted in rewarding its people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Innovation and quality suffer when you focus too much on margins and don't value your people

I worked at ICON full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

cafeteria, nice size cube, company outings, free cupcakes for birthday months.

    Cons

underpaid, arbitrary office politics, unprofessional coworkers, heinously biased and unorganized HR staff - frankly there are other CRO oriented businesses much worth your time to seek employment with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat your employees with respect, not just to those who kiss your behind

I have been working at ICON full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with; better than average benefits.

    Cons

Management not honest with employees; no career development; layoffs with no notice due to profit margin issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revisit your mission statement and values. You say you recruit and retain the best in the industry; in reality, you do not care about your people. No career development, no career path, no promotions. Constantly telling US employees they are too expensive. Lay off US staff to outsource to lower cost regions.

I have been working at ICON full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

good place for a newbie to learn the ropes, training and mentoring system needs work but you won't get fired for having no idea what you're doing and ppl are usually nice enough to help when you ask

    Cons

extremely below standard salary, bonuses have been suspended, you have to fight to move up or out of a department and even then you still may be kept stagnant, extremely cliqueish...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

spread the wealth and pay your employees what they deserve...everyday you brag about how our revenue is increasing from the previous year but we can't tell

    Pros

benefits are great if you use them/ PTO

    Cons

too many chiefs not enough indians

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As everything is based on metrics, it would serve management well to engage employees, pay attention to details as well as timelines, provide tools and training that is severely needed to do the job well, and by encouraging growth and development you will foster confidence that enables employees to contribute in a meaningful way; not just for some, but for all..

I worked at ICON full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

They had great benefits in the beginning of the company start up.

    Cons

They don't want you to be there longer then 10 years or so. If you are they get rid of you. So there is no opportunity for longevity with them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be more promotion opportunities, more abilities to move around the company. You should have long range goals of how to retire an employee being a young company there are no plans for that yet.

    Pros

Good place to start after college, great training, good benefits

    Cons

Very cliquey, slow to promote unless you are in the 'in' crowd, low pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat your employees equally, stop the favoritism. You have high CRA turn over due to extreme travel expectations and low compensation; Advice to employees- learn what you can and get out.
