Don't work at ICT if you value education

    Instructor (Current Employee)

ProsThe students are wonderful, many immigrants working two jobs to support a family, and come to ICT to learn English or get training for a better job. Tuition is relatively low, and the school works to get students into jobs.

ConsThe school values recruiting students over everything else, doesn't pay teachers well, and pressures teachers to retain students instead of teaching them anything. Despite its name, the technology is often outdated.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou don't respect or value teaching in anything you do, and trophies don't substitute for tangible rewards. Why spend a lot for a PR campaign claiming individual attention for students when you refuse to pay the teachers for their time giving students that attention?

The company does not value their employees

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsComparing to other ESL schools in the area there is quite a stable enrollment and there is curriculum developed

ConsTeachers are turned into salesmen who are responsible for students continuing their education. Their job depends on numbers of students staying and passing from level to level. As a consequence, most teachers make up grades to keep their jobs. You are forced to act unethically and pretend you are doing it for the benefit of the student.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't micromanage teachers just to show how great of a job you do. Respect their exprertise because many of you have no idea about teaching.

Good company to work for but not to retire at.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood, productive employees are treated very well and have ample opportunity for growth in the company. This isn't a place where you can just lay low once you are hired and always collect a paycheck. If you demonstrate good work, you will be rewarded, otherwise you will be pushed out the door.

The transparency in overall company performance is also very refreshing. They do not hide from letting all employees know how the numbers are and if they think this is good or bad based on projections.

While a few aspects seem a little shady, they realize that the success of the college is tied to the success of their students and I think that overall, they have the best interests of the students at heart.

ConsThe sales aspects (getting and retaining students) are very cut throat. The company is very bottom line oriented and constantly harps on working as hard as you can. This can get discouraging when you are already exhausted from giving everything you have.

Also, pay here is low across the board. That doesn't mean it isn't fair but this isn't a place that is going to be able to compensate as well as the bigger players in your related field.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement does well in focusing on providing for the individual students but sometimes their frugality causes the infrastructure that supports the students in less direct ways to suffer. Some of this has changed for the better and I hope this continues.

Management is only interested in dollars

    Instructor (Current Employee)

ProsDiverse student body, and industry recognized certifications. Low cost.

ConsManagement does not value education, listen to employees and treats teachers like dirt. They misrepresent themselves publicly, go back on their promises to employees and treat students like dirt.

Advice to Senior ManagementA school should value teachers, not continue to figure out ways to rip them off.

I am looking for another job

Business Instructor (Current Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsIf there is nothing else. It is a college and as such you can meet new people and the satisfaction of helping others is the best thing that you will get. One can get that at any other college or education center but this, along with some of the other instructors is the only thing that is really worth it.

ConsBroken work hours, job performance is appreciated only by words, not by salary. Work day is split in two by a huge break which makes the to-work - from-work time about 12 hours. Management will often say how much they appreciate your performance, but your salary will stay behind all other comparable job positions from all other comparable colleges.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe fair to employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
