Head Office is disconnected from the outside world both in the tech sector and within IDC

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsSmart people
    You can make your mark
    Access to senior IT execs
If you play your cards, you can travel.

ConsToo much centralized management in Framingham. The management has been the same people for years. It needs new blood.
Pay is poor, especially if you work out the hourly rate.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet management out of Framingham. At the same time, introduce new management.
    Reduce reliance on P&L obsession

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

A big brand name but a poor place to work

    Research Manager (Current Employee)

    ProsEstablished research programs
    Strong brand name
    Worldwide coverage
    Flexible time and work location

ConsEverything runs on excel sheet - from research to P&L. Very conservative, risk adverse and resistant to change culture while IDC predictions focus on changes happening in IT and how to embrace them. No respect for employee's work and life balance. Overload of work and unrealistic goals. No accountability internally at multiple levels.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen and empower your employee not only on paper

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Below Average

    Senior Analyst (Current Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsFlexible work hours, work from home. Some talented people, but many, disappointed by leadership and compensation, have stopped putting in much effort.

ConsIndifferent to employees concerns, far too focused on short term results. Lower than average pay. Actions of management contradict stated values. Very little room for growth. Very poor employee satisfaction. Long term employees paid too much so they compensate for this by paying new employees poorly. They won't stick around. No accountability or motivation.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employees better. Hold lower performing employees accountable. Improve morale to reduce turnover. Provide better compensation and benefits.

Great colleagues but there are a few difficult people to work with

    (Former Employee)
    Sydney (Australia)

Pros- Great company to gain ICT knowledge
    - Supportive research managers/leaders for the research team
    - Great Stepping stone to a better place
    - Flexible working hours

ConsI second the review by the former employee below. IDC Sydney expects their employees to be loyal to the company and yet they are not treating them the right way and not investing enough in L&D. It is not surprising that IDC Sydney faces high employee turnover.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt will only get better if the management starts to see the need to pay employees fairly at market rate at the very least, give the employees the opportunities to build career progression and stop hiring new incompetent people to lead. The leader of the Sydney office needs to be more forward-looking and understand that hiring new people is not going to turnaround the company immediately, especially when they are new to the industry. Instead, try focusing on the people they have now and train them up.

    Good Company to work for

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFlexible Timing, Good learning Experience, provides a good networking experience. Opportunities to move around the world. Intelligent and friendly team players. Family atmosphere.

ConsSalary on the lower end compared to the industry standard. Lack of structured processes. Doing things outside of the skill set you were employed for. Talented stuff around only for few years. IDC needs to take more care of good employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeeds to be more creative in acquiring new business models, in order to stay current and relevant. Ignoring changes in the new business environment will put IDC out of the game.

    Was all good, until...

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

ProsGood location. Great colleagues. Zero politics for junior / middle level employees. Unlimited "work from home" (depending on your reporting line). Flexi hours.

ConsNot transparent. Changes, restructuring is not communicated properly. Expensive parking. Expensive lunch if opt not to drive out.

Advice to Senior ManagementShould take care of other staff apart from analysts only. Be sincere and truthful about restructuring and changes. Do not give false hope to staff.

Opening doors to the IT market

    Analyst (Current Employee)
    Budapest (Hungary)

ProsOpportunity to get familiar with IT market players
    Opportunity to acquire professional relationships
Good start point to position yourself as an expert

    ConsNo growth opportunities
No possibility to move to other professional areas within the company
Limited focus on branches other than regional centres

Advice to Senior ManagementIf a company wants to position itself higher than competitors, it must make its staff believe they worth more.

Very flexible place to work, but salaries are low and career development is inexistent

    Research Director (Former Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsGood company to work for if you are looking for flexible working conditions, a good work/life balance and a very good environment between people from different nationalities.

ConsPoor career development with salaries below the industry average. HR is the achilles' hell as it doesn't take a strategic approach
