    Consultant for Reference Laboratory

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIDEXX provided a very supportive environment with good management, friendly coworkers, ability to telecommute, and good benefits. Over time there is the ability to work in different roles within the company.

ConsThe internal software for tracking cases was a bit difficult to work with- this may have improved since I was last there.

Lack of upward mobility for lower level employees

    Research Associate Temp (Current Employee)
    Westbrook, ME

ProsConsistent work. Pay is average for the area. work 40+ hours a week. Ability to good above and beyond (No rewards for hard work)

ConsHard to get in. Lots of competition for low to average pay for the area. Will not call you back, need to know someone on the inside to get hired. Temp jobs are 2nd class employees. No upward mobility. Hard work is not rewarded. Politics are supreme, if you play the game you can get ahead.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate more full-time positions for long-term temps. The temps are not treated well and are first discarded even after showing years of loyalty and hard work furthering the company. Create avenues for advancement and ways to further education.

I used to love my job - i now HATE going to work due to constant micromanagement from supervisors and 'hall monitors'

    Technical Support Consultant (Current Employee)
    Eau Claire, WI

ProsActual work is enjoyable if you enjoy solving technical problems and working with people on the phone.

ConsMajor micromanagement issues. Management plays favorites and is unfair in work decisions - very demotivating.

Advice to Senior ManagementSupervisors need to have the technical knowledge to properly make day to day business decisions rather than have to rely on a 'favorite go to' to make decisions for them - who themselves have less ability to make proper decisions than employees with even less 'seniority'. Very upside down structure in Eau Claire location currently.

Technical skill and ability is not recognized whatsoever. Direct supervisors do not have the skill to recognize it and use only computer generated metrics to measure job performance which is incredibly inaccurate way to measure a person's ability to do their job.

Direct supervisors need to be the most highly technically skilled and knowledgable people on each team rather than the least (literally).

    Long Temp Time

Scientific Research Associate III (Current Employee)
    Portland, ME

    ProsFull forty hours a week

    ConsNo Benefits whatsoever at all

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your temps hired full-time to positions. If someone has been there for over a year without benefits then that person deserves to either be hired on or let go. They shouldn't be prolonged in Limbo. Being a Temp is like being a second-class citizen. No fair treatment and overall no real perks of being the in the company at all. You can apply for jobs but your treatment is equal to any joe on the street. They prefer to hire out of state.

    Coordinator

    Coordinator (Former Employee)
    West Sacramento, CA

    ProsThe people you work with

ConsNo inservice training, no advancement, over work, under pay, brain dead management, too many managers and not enough employees, no employee recognition, no employee lunches, parties, holiday events

Advice to Senior ManagementLoose all the dead end management. Heres how it goes, Lab Manager, Assistant Lab Manager, Lab Supervisor, Assistant Lab Supervisor, Shift Manager, Assistant shift manager, Coordinator, Lead Tech, then worker bee. DUH--How about Lab Manager, Lab Supervisor, worker?

    A good place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIDEXX has a competitive edge in the market with integrated technologies and has good product support and training opportunities for customers

ConsThis company tends to promote individuals that are close to the central office and promotions don't seem to have much to do with individual performance. Awards and recognition is more subjective than objective.

Advice to Senior ManagementRide along more with representative to get a pulse of the market in each demographic area. Shape goals to represent customer challenges in each geography.

poor management and no opportunity to move up

    Technical Support Tech (Current Employee)
    Eau Claire, WI

ProsIt is a good starter IT job

ConsPay. The new hires always get paid more then the people who have been there for a time, and management plays favorites

Advice to Senior ManagementNeeds to treat your employees better.

    Awesome workplace

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Westbrook, ME

ProsWorld class facilities with a very nice gym and a free walk-in clinic. Very open and light place, with lots of different places to sit down with your laptop. Very nice cafeteria with health food options. Work is fulfilling, especially if you like pets, science, engineering and/or software businesses.

ConsYou kind of need to believe that pets are nice to have as family.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company is clearly a growing success story for Maine. Please continue to value your employees, while encouraging entrepreneurilism, and don't turn into a bureaucractic type of place like so many big companies .

    Confused spending priorities

    Engineer I (Former Employee)
    Westbrook, ME

ProsDecent salary for the state. Flexible working hours for most departments. Employee appreciation for "permanent" workers. Attractive campus. Multiple on-site cafeteria's with healthy offerings.

ConsLots of frivolous spending on decor & not on essential departments. They seem to be all about Curb appeal & not departments that they rely on to create their product.
If your in there as a Temporary employee, be prepared to be treated as 2nd class. It was not uncommon for a manager to come into the group & be as friendly as can be to all the permanent employee's but walk right by ignoring the lowly temps.
