    Pros

Great pay, great benefits, monthly catered meals, low stress work environment

    Cons

Promotions- staff is promoted but doesn't do the work to go with the promotion. They are stuck in high positions. No way to demote employees that deserve to be demoted. Hard for a new hire to be promoted even though they work harder than the current Sr. Techs. Staff is very childish and petty when it comes to issues and gang up on individuals that don't fit into their mold.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, especially unbiased new hires who give the raw truth about issues and work conditions. Also don't punish everyone when some people are deliberately being insubordinate and disobeying managers request. That should be ground for a write up and depending on how many times the same issue has been brought to everyone's attention, it should be grounds for termination. Get fresh blood in there and get rid of the bad apples in the bunch and bringing down moral

    Pros

This company is successful and has a lot of great employees. The benefits are good compared to other companies in the area. Idexx is a great place to work if you love animals. There is much exciting work going on. There are new products coming out all the time.

    Cons

Idexx is focusing to much on only hiring people under age 30. They are laying off the older workers and replacing them with people who have no experience. They are laying off people because they are overweight or unhealthy. It is hard to believe that it is going on but there are to many workers leaving to deny it. Idexx is to be a place where only young people and fit people work. That is the message to managers. Why is HR letting this happen?

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like people. Everybody gets older and that is not a good reason to fire them. Why don't you follow the purpose and guiding principles and retrain older employees? Stop looking at what people look like and look at results. What will happen to you when you get old or fat?

    Pros

The company is solid. Not likely to get laid off.

    Cons

There is no room for movement unless you and your wife are friends with the right people. They treat their employees horrible and could care less about them. Employees move on that are not very smart but are in the good old boy club. There is also a TON of nepotism in the company.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes treating your employees will make them work harder for you. People don't leave companies, they leave leaders.

    Pros

The business is rock solid because of so little competition in this industry. Thank god for less competition because the company is run so in efficient and disorganized it would fail if there was competition. Truly amazing

    Cons

If you are an older employee at IDEXX you have no opportunity at all for advancement, there is a lot of age discrimination if you are older, As the last post says, they were rather hire some inexperienced young person, instead of hiring someone with years of experience in that specific job. The only part is how do you prove age discrimination I wish I could.

    Advice to Management

Maybe if upper management would get off there high horses, take off their blind folds and see the dysfunction in all the departments because of this philosophy. Stop sitting in your office counting your money take a long hard look at what opportunities you are missing because of age discrimination. Maybe have some of the multiple HR people check into it you will be surprised how often this is happening. It is very non-motivational to apply for a job where you meet every qualification listed with years of experience and you don't even get an interview, pretty sad.

    Pros

The company is forward thinking and has the heart of an innovator. Those willing to work hard and put the hours in can succeed in a worthwhile career, forwarding the advancement of animal sciences.

    Cons

Just because someone is a superstar in their position does not necessarily make them management capable.

    Advice to Management

    Continuous training.
    Listen to feedback from employees.
    Create open communication between employees.
Machiavellian style leadership does not work!!

    Pros

Entrepreneurial environment. You can make many suggestions/contributions that can impact customers and the company. Matrix organization makes it possible to reach out to other resources in the organization for help.

    Cons

Extremely busy with many projects that required extensively long days and nights. Managers drive their people hard and expect results often times forgetting that they could provide additional resources. High burn-out rate. Multiple employees have left due to stress.

    Advice to Management

Set a better pace, train managers to be more supportive of their teams. We know products must get out the door but if teams were not as stressed due to time constraints, the final products would be better and more reliable. Realize the employees are your most valuable resource. I've seen a lot of great talent walk out the doors because you can't provide the support/resources they need.
