    Pros

Health benefits are nice and a gym at the corporate office is a plus.

    Cons

I started a training program with the company, they said they value their Employee's but when it comes to training, you better ask a lot of questions and get hands on because if you don't you will be out on your butt. I thought that training classes meant just that, training, nor expert. Ask questions, get experience, then perform, and progress. I didn't find this to be true. Don't trust your neighbors or the trainers; if you are not the controller or the dominating type, you are going to be let go.

    Advice to Management

If employee's are your focus than train them right, give them the tools to do the job, and watch them work, give them a chance to win at their jobs before you escort them out the door.

    Pros

Good pay. Great people to work with. Products which help in the world. Good mission statement and community involvement.

    Cons

Lack of mentorship. IDEXX suffers from growing too fast. They have also grown the big company mentality of expendable people. I saw other reviews citing ageism. I support those claims but the company has learned from the past and creates situations where no claims of this would stick.

    Advice to Management

Value local and experienced knowledge. Work harder to create an honest environment.

    Pros

Pay and benefits are average to above average. If you buy into their ideals and believe that "the company" truly cares about the industries it supports then you will have an opportunity to feel a great sense of satisfaction from your work. There is a positive sense of belonging or family culture that really draws people in. You'll find the employees are so absorbed in what's going on at work that it is all they can talk about outside of work. I personally bought in and took pride in feeling like I could make a difference but unfortunately it is common place for the hard workers to get more work and not a great deal of additional benefit other than potentially moving into higher ranking positions that sometimes do and sometimes do not offer a great deal of additional reward.

    Cons

There are many opportunities to feel like management cares more about the bottom line than it's employees or the customers; sometimes this is true and sometimes it is not. Working in the tech support group exposes you to all of the shortfalls of the software and it becomes hard to see the good that is offered to the customers although the good is there and the products being offered often far exceed that of their competitors. Change is rapid and sometimes not well thought out. Short term fixes are often put ahead of long term planning.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees and they will take you a long way. Put a little more weight on addressing the difficult challenges with your products instead of being so fixed on the next big shiny thing. Spend a little more time considering the repercussions of change before setting things in motion.

    Pros

Great pay, great benefits, monthly catered meals, low stress work environment

    Cons

Promotions- staff is promoted but doesn't do the work to go with the promotion. They are stuck in high positions. No way to demote employees that deserve to be demoted. Hard for a new hire to be promoted even though they work harder than the current Sr. Techs. Staff is very childish and petty when it comes to issues and gang up on individuals that don't fit into their mold.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, especially unbiased new hires who give the raw truth about issues and work conditions. Also don't punish everyone when some people are deliberately being insubordinate and disobeying managers request. That should be ground for a write up and depending on how many times the same issue has been brought to everyone's attention, it should be grounds for termination. Get fresh blood in there and get rid of the bad apples in the bunch and bringing down moral

    Pros

This company is successful and has a lot of great employees. The benefits are good compared to other companies in the area. Idexx is a great place to work if you love animals. There is much exciting work going on. There are new products coming out all the time.

    Cons

Idexx is focusing to much on only hiring people under age 30. They are laying off the older workers and replacing them with people who have no experience. They are laying off people because they are overweight or unhealthy. It is hard to believe that it is going on but there are to many workers leaving to deny it. Idexx is to be a place where only young people and fit people work. That is the message to managers. Why is HR letting this happen?

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like people. Everybody gets older and that is not a good reason to fire them. Why don't you follow the purpose and guiding principles and retrain older employees? Stop looking at what people look like and look at results. What will happen to you when you get old or fat?
