I have been working at IDT full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It has a relaxed culture, my co-workers are fun to be around, location is ideal.

    Cons

Limited growth, low pay, hardly any raises. there also seems to be a lot of office politics that go on here..the higher up's don't care much when they lose highly skilled employees. Favoritism to a select group of people. They do not offer incentives to want you to stay there. tuition reimbursement is a joke.. they move people a lot. It's not unusual if you move 2-3 times in a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please ask yourselves why you are losing good highly skilled employees. Show appreciation to all employees, not just a few - Yes, we know only a select few get bonuses.

I have been working at IDT full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great co-workers. I liked most of my managers. The atmosphere is fairly positive. Decent IT department.

    Cons

Pay is so-so. Benefits are lousy. Mass transit is a pain because it's a mile from the train station (not fun on a rainy day) and the so-called "light rail" only runs like every 45 minutes or whenever they feel like it. Lots of charming bodegas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    more consistency and team-building

I worked at IDT full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

nice co-workers and decent work-life balance

    Cons

    employee health plan is poor
used to be a lot more fun
    little opportunity for advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's hard to say what they could be doing better. The biggest challenge has been the downturn in the business, which only recently began to recover. It was painful to watch as the company went through round after round of lay-offs.

I worked at IDT full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good co-workers, very flexible on time and working from home, casual atmosphere, parking garage a block away (big plus), location its ok (a couple of good places to eat near by)

    Cons

No real room for growth, bad pay, horrible benefits (co-pays are high), a lot of senior positions getting paid well for doing nothing (too much of that), really old technology (very poor for a telecoms company), no real sense of direction, no innovative products, dirty facilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring company up to date on work ethics, dress codes (some people just show too much or wear sweat pants to work), trainings to improve work, technology needs a serious overhaul, get rid of so many dead weights that don't do anything (too many).

I have been working at IDT

    Pros

Intelligent and pleasant coworkers, relaxed professional environment, interesting problems to work on, good compensation. flexible work schedule, minimal commuting delays, gated free parking

    Cons

Internal physical environment decent however not particularly asthetic,
Newark not the most scenic or safest place. Cuts in benefits
have not been fully restored e.g. minimal 401k matching, short term disability replaced with
    Aflac.

I have been working at IDT

    Pros

Flexible schedule, able to work from home

    Cons

Very political, it's all about who you know or are related to. Compensation not reflective of position or responsibilities performed but based on who you 'schmooze' with. No transparency. No rewards or recognition for hard work or for going the extra mile. Lack of communication from upper management or between departments. Frequent 'restructuring' makes work challenging. Not much accountability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the people who actually do the work.

    I worked at IDT

    Pros

if you are orthodox jewish you will fit in. also, some of the divisions are very innovative. the scheduling is truly flexible, in a way i've never seen before. there are many bright hard-working people there. the company encourages healthy habit in employees, furnishing a gym. commuting to newark is easy on public transportation.

    Cons

preference shown for the orthodox people. also, lately there is not much financial stability. the company has a recent record of undertaking ventures in many different industries about which they don't know much. they've been taken advantage of. management overestimates its ability jump into an area unprepared.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep up with the cost cutting and increase the focus on the parts of the business which can make money.

    Pros

I liked all my coworkers at IDT.
Nice view of the NYC skyline from the stairwell.
The Reagan quote plastered high on the wall in the foyer:
"America is too big for small dreams"

    Cons

Whole departments seemed to get moved every couple of months
The fourth floor deli does not settle well in the belly - yet I kept going back. Go figure.

    I worked at IDT

    Pros

Entrepreneurial environment where new businesses are constantly popping up. If you can latch onto the right project at the right time there is the opportunity advance and carve out a piece of the pie. Great work/life balance - most people have families and don't work much after normal business hours.

    Cons

The company has no clear strategy for growth or profitability. Most business units are just trying to keep projects in play so they can stay employed. the cash drain has slowed but things are still pretty precarious. The company will have to start generating free cash flow soon or find a source of funding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lock yourselves in a conference room until you figure this thing out.
