I worked at IEEE full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good and there are a lot of good people working there as well. You just have to be smart though, everything there is about who is who. Who works for who, what position you are in etc. Also, while I was there, if you knew someone, or were related to anyone you were automatically able to get hired. I felt like everyone there was related.

    Cons

Politics, HR, too much reorganization. HR is extremely corrupt. Now there are those who get into a good department and everyone is fair, or they become buddy buddy with the right person. There was me who ended up in the wrong department and it was so political there, all about kissing butt, which I will never do. People were constantly fired and they were constantly doing reorgs. Hence why they are always hiring. IEEE also has a reputation for unlawfully firing people. Just not a place I would recommend. Also as a younger employee, I felt the elders, especially women, were rude to me.

    Pros

Great health and other benefits, casual work environment, salaries are in line with other employers in the area and other member associations.

    Cons

Management gets away with murder and HR does nothing about it. Upper management clueless about how dispirited the workforce is,and doesn't care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at IEEE as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

+ The workload is very reasonable. You can probably finish your week's work in 3-4 days and then take it pretty easy.
+ The hours a pretty flexible. Most managers don't mind if you work from home even, as long as you get the work done.
    + Nice environment, friendly people.

    Cons

    - The place is just so lazy. That's great if you want a nice, chill job. But if you're the type who likes getting work done, this place is not for you. It's too easy, to the point where it's just boring.
    - There doesn't seem to be much room for improvement. It feels like it would take forever to climb that corporate ladder.
    - It doesn't seems like people are rewarded for their hard work. On the other hand, some employees who seem to be slacking all the time keep getting ahead. My feeling is that there's more office politics going on than I saw during my time there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Something needs to be done about that lazy environment.

I have been working at IEEE

    Pros

    1. Diversified network globally
    2. Supports new initiatives and ideas
    3. Due recognition for contributions to the IEEE Society and mankind
    4. Amiable work environment with the IEEE blood running thick in the veins of every IEEEian across the globe i.e. everybody is very co-operative and supportive in each other's endeavour and work together to achieve the common goal of benefitting the society.
    5. Work is balanced by equal opportunities to have fun!

    Cons

    1. Have to be on your toes and give the best shot possible to deliver results
(however, failures, if come after good amount of sincere efforts, are NOT looked down upon, rather , the efforts are appreciated!)

    Pros

The people at this company really care about you. There is great work/life balance and decent salaries.

    Cons

Many people who work here stay here for life. This tends to create complacency. Just remember to keep it fresh and new and to move around.

I worked at IEEE full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For many years they were great at striving to keep people even when the work changed. They retrained and were committed to the people who invested their lives in the organizations work. Good benefits too.

    Cons

Change at least at the Computer Society to much more corporate and ruthless sort of attitude from the top down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep moving beyond the publications into the newer ways of communicating.
