Good experience

Waiter (Former Employee)
Westminster, MD

I worked at IHOP part-time for more than a year

ProsFriendly environment, easy menu to memorize, and easy waiting job.

ConsOne cook in particular was not pleasant to work with. Some customers, who are elderly, complain about the smallest things. Some customers also don't tip well at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure server and cooks are on the same page. Don't hire servers who don't want to be there.

Overall a pleasant experience although tips weren't very great and obviously as a waitress, base pay was very low

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at IHOP

ProsWorking at IHOP provides you with a social and friendly environment. Although the staff may sometimes lack professionalism you normally get what you could expect from a breakfast restaurant

ConsSince the pay is primarily based off of the tips that one makes, it's very possible to work an entire shift and not make very much. However, this is something that can be said of any tip-based pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementI believe that a bit more of professionalism could go a long way.

Unorganized, unfair management.

Server/Host (Former Employee)
Kissimmee, FL

I worked at IHOP part-time for less than a year

ProsThe food is great and you pretty much have access to it for free or very cheap. That's about it though.

ConsMost of my experiences working at this company were negative ones. I was hired and trained to be a server, and out of nowhere, management just put me to host almost every single shift I worked. The servers were disrespectful and competitive, and management is highly unorganized and plays favorites. About a week after my last day I had received my last paycheck and noticed they did not pay me the time and a half I deserved for working a 10 hour shift on Christmas. Everyone else had received time and a half. Unorganized and ungrateful management. One of the managers had also made it very clear she didn't like me, talked to me as if I were a dog, and gave me dirty looks. I also found it unfair that servers and other employees could take several 5 minute smoke-breaks outside, but I couldn't take a lunch break or I'd get yelled at. I'm sure it's not every location that's like this, but be careful when applying here as I never expected such a horrible working experience.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat new employees with respect.

I worked at IHOP full-time for more than a year

ProsPay (sometimes), Coworkers, Short hours, discounts on food, guests are usually nice

ConsManagement, inconsistent training, hours, lack of communication, no breaks, favoritism towards some employees,

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement- you guys have a great time and you need to start treating them as such. COMMUNICATION IS KEY! And please stop showing favoritism to employee who don't deserve it!
