I worked at IHS CERA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked at CERA when it was located in Harvard Square, and the people were great, the top brass would often walk around the office saying hello to everyone in the various departments, the annual bonus was fabulous, salary and benefits were great. Then the company moved to its current location (near the Cambridgeside Galleria) and things went downhill (see cons, below).

    Cons

Before CERA merged with IHS, it felt like a friendlier place to work. Once the company was bought out by IHS, things became top-heavy and corporate. The merger caused CERA to lose its identity and be sucked up into another bland, corporate entity.

    Pros

    Nice smart people work here.

    Cons

Too much resistance to integrating CERA to IHS. There is a real need for corporate to focus on integration.

    Advice to Management

Focus on internal integration instead of acquisitions

    Pros

exposure to senior government officers and business executives, flexible working hours

    Cons

takes really long to promote anybody, promotions are not structured and lot of times may not be fair.

    Advice to Management

For the same work promote the same way.

I worked at IHS CERA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting work and mostly interesting and smart people; plenty of interaction with executives and analysts at client companies; access to a huge variety of data and expertise; pretty flexible work schedule and moderate stress; an evolving and exciting company

    Cons

    Lacks proper management and training schemes; no apparent system for developing people or leaders; easy to get stuck in a role and go nowhere if an opportunity doesn't present itself (such as your boss leaving);

    Advice to Management

Money and flexibility is not enough to develop talent; you need to get managers and more senior folks to take more interest in training and development of younger and less experienced people, otherwise they will either move on or become complacent.

I worked at IHS CERA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - relatively young team with strong academic backgrounds and good communicational skills - lots of effort put into team building workshops - flexible in letting team members work from home and remotely from different locations - nice office location

    Cons

-there is no set staff development path -the work can get repetitive if covering the same markets over a long period of time -the team is not very attached to other assets groups and could benefit by doing so

I worked at IHS CERA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As CERA - lots of access to senior industry figures. Creative and dedicated research and consulting opportunities

    Cons

IHS culture has stifled and killed the CERA one: Top heavy bureaucracy. Bullying and intimidation by senior management. Too many acquisitions. Poor quality of management

    Advice to Management

Root out a growing culture of bullying and harassment. Stop the scatter gun approach to acquisitions and consolidate. Acknowledge creative and energetic cultures across acquired companies and nurture them.

I have been working at IHS CERA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There is a lot of variety in the work which is can be very interesting. IHS CERA has a great reputation and has access to decision makers in companies and government.

    Cons

Above the IHS CERA organisation, there is an increasingly large corporate organisation which is IHS. Managers are put in charge or areas where they have little technical experience.

    Advice to Management

    Spin off Energy Division
