I worked at IHS full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Senior leadership has a vision, but it doesn't translate to individual worker's contributions easily
    - Global company
    - Employees are highly intelligent

    Cons

    - No opportunity to develop new skills - hired on at your current skill level and you leave with the same skill level
    - Directors and VP have no leadership skills - "do what I say" mentality
    - Employee engagement is all lip service - no real actionable items and no changes regardless of engagement results
    - No work/life balance - 60-70 weeks are the norm, and when world sales conference comes around in Q4, 7 day 80-100 hour weeks are the norm for the three months of planning and implementation
    - Teams and team members are regularly pitted against each other for resources, projects and recognition

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Listen to your employees when they express concerns during the employee engagement surveys and offer up real solutions.
    - Throwing money at a problem doesn't always work.
    - Layoffs are not the best way to control expenses and cut costs

    I worked at IHS full-time

    Pros

Free parking, stock shares, close to mall and shopping, getting paid to do very little

    Cons

Disorganized leadership; forever changing agendas and goals; highly frustrating silo environment;; severe lack of communication; lack of promotion; zero comradery and work dynamics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Obtain better leadership; There are talented people who are not being led because management spends so much time reporting into layers of management and worrying about stock price on Wall St. More time is spent on performance reviews than training people to do their job in the first place.

I worked at IHS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of room to grow and learn about the consulting business and new skills. Great direct managers. Reasonable hours for entry levels.

    Cons

Compensation is below market, there isn't a true commitment to devoting necessary resources for consulting which is immensely frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The consulting business as a whole, let alone in a non-energy business line felt like an afterthought at all turns.

    Pros

Good work life balance I'd say is the biggest pro.
Big company with a lot of overlap, hard to get your views out there.

    The bureaucracy and the pay.

Reward the top performers instead of trying to be equal across the board.
