    Pros

Good bonus if the company does well. Many mid size divisions where it is easy to work on a variety of job duties. If work slows down in one dept and they like you, they often find you other work over laying you off.

    Cons

Salary not competitive. Slow to move up.

    Pros

The total bonus package is fairly high! The benefits are OK. The workplace is friendly.

    Cons

The base salaries are unacceptably too low. The opportunities for growth are limited. The micro-management is not always fair.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the micro-management. Promote fairness. Give competitive wages (base).

    I have been working at II-VI full-time

    Pros

    - Stable, bookings tend to consistently increase
    - Committed to developing new products and applications
    - Generally good customer focus. Quality is more than a buzzword.
    - Decent bonus plan

    Cons

    - When the bonus gets to be too good for the employees, the plan changes to their detriment.
    - An awful lot of high-level management and executives for a company this size. It is hard to figure out what some of these folks actually do.
    - A ton of overhead and admin keeps costs high, slows everything down. This problem has only been getting worse.
    - Perception is greatly valued over reality.
    - Poorly performing, volatile stock.
    - Low base pay for the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Slim down your ranks! Reduce the overhead and admin to a more reasonable level.
    - Increase the base pay. Take a bit from the top and give it to the bottom and the middle.
    - The management needs to be more realistic and less concerned about presenting a good image to those above them.

    I have been working at II-VI full-time

    Pros

flat structure is good, there is plenty of opportunity to take on more and more responsibility, just don't expect anything for it.

    Cons

it is a good old boy network, the longer your are there the higher you can go regardless if the position is deserved or not. Layers and layers of approval for such a flat structure.
Management wrote the book on micromanaging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change, move into the 21st century
