Current Employee – been working at IIT Kanpur full-time for more than 7 years

Pros – I want to work in astrophysics, when I joined here, I was in a stat of flux but once I started working with my guide, I am happy. Also the surroundings atmosphere is very good. The campus is very big and we have all kind of expertise here at one place.

Cons – We have a large no. of undergrads and so we have to go for TA. Otherwise the undergrads are making the campus live.

Pros – good research exposure, directly working on something useful to real life scenario, good learning experience

Cons – low pay, have to do alone, Kanpur is not a good city to live

2. Excellent thesis advisory,
3. By far better than any other IITs,
4. Excellent world class facilities.

Cons – 1. Time consuming,
2. Need better facilities in Theoretical divisions.

Advice to Senior Management – Excellent opportunity for the Physics Department of IIT Kanpur to grow itself to be one of the best Institutes in the world. First improvement I would suggest is to fasten up the thesis process. Second improvement is to provide better work facilities to students working on Theoretical divisions (although I was an experimentalist myself).

Pros – Flexible work hours - come in as and when you like. Nice office space provided with supportive office staff, supportive management, funds readily available for travel grants, enhanced stipend etc. Visits to other facilities easy to get approved and financed as well. Nice labs and in general infrastructure is well developed.

Cons – Exposure to some niche fields can be a problem due to lack of expertise in some areas. Faculty strength is low in system areas which affects the ability to indulge in large scale systems projects.

Cons – Few professors are too much money oriented.

Advice to Senior Management – Keep track of the expenses of the faculties so that they can wisely used the tax payers money.
